Some comment on cricinfo. Jawad: "I fail to understand why inspite of extra pace, there is no extra advantage for Umran. I stead he seems to get hammered more than fellow bowlers". At this level, sideways swing/seam movement causes far more trouble than pure pace.

Problem today is he is going to use Boob Kumar's figures as a benchmark which have been exceptional. Lol.

Where do these morons come from?? Like WTF is wrong with these people?

TBH, there is nothing wrong with that. you need skills. Bowling is not just hurling the ball but bowling must have a purpose behind it. Skill development is important. Umran needs to develops skills quickly so that he can bowl with new ball and swing it even if at 140 K and not 150 but should be able to crank it up to 150 when needed with older ball. He has the best outswing bowler at his disposal in Dale Steyn. Pace is an x-factor but not everything. Pace alone is not enough in today's cricket where batsmen are practicing against side arm specialists who regularly cranks 95 mph.

Obviously, no one is denying that. Any person with an iota of common sense knows you gotta pitch the ball in the area u want.

And no, not all bowlers are the same. So Dale cant be a reference for everyone. There were guys like Lee and Johnson who bowled pretty much full tilt when they were in rhythm. Heck even Notje does that.

And to come up with such a comment today when they guy did nothing wrong speaks more of their insecurity or some complex than anything else.

Problem is bowlers who have pace and do nothing else are also one trick pony like trundlers who can swing the ball when it is available but struggle otherwise. there is no difference between the two.

Umran can be successful in the middle overs. He needs to look at Wood as a role model. Wood is not a big mover of the ball but is good as an enforcer who batters people with pace and picks up crucial wickets. He is also very accurate. Umran needs to get better with his bouncers and yorkers.

Umran Malik is shortish and bowls with a round arm action. Hence he has a very low release point. So it won't be easy for him to get natural bounce. He will have to pitch it shorter than most others to get bounce.

I think it is best if he can seam the ball a bit and target the top of off stump. ( Plus develop a good yorker )

Even a little bit of seam movement, at 142 k to 152 k, is very difficult to handle.

Bowl at Top of off stump & trust his yorkers more & more.  Today he bowled a slower one as well in that super fast over.

It is very hard as a bowler when you are bowling only 2 overs per match.  He is not able to try out or perfect so many things.

Crash course is always too hard.

The difference is that the trundler swing bowlers are worshipped in India and the straight express bowlers are treated like criminals.

Trundlers cannot bowl quick or become express but express bowlers can learn to do other things that is the difference but that needs to be learnt too, wont happen naturally.

He has been picked because he is very quick.

But his speed data has not been made public.

i think he can bowl at high 140s but needs time to be more match ready..unless things go very wrong for RCB.. we may see him only at next season..

Remember SRH only debuted Umran when they were out of race..

these people are extremely saf ein their approach to play raw pace bowlers..

atleast KKR played the rookie mystery spinner Suyash very soon..

Mukesh Kumar to Agarwal, 1 run

143 kph ball lands short on fifth stump, slapped to the sweeper for one.

I even saw one bowl at 146k from Harshal..safe to assume these are some abnormalities in speedgun..

So don't treat trundlers as supermen and don't prefer them.

And teach express bowlers some skills.

Im sure in ODIs Umran will bowl top of off stump. He's got some keeper caught-behinds. In T20s when u come in the middle overs, a length ball may not be the best choice. Still, that depends on the pitch. Also, 2 overs just aint enough. Depends on tactics. Not sure what their plan was. Bishop wanted him to hold back the length a little bit too. And I agree with him today. But Either way wasn't a bad call to bowl full so won't be super critical. Those full balls are difficult to score off in the middle and a wicket-taking option at the end.

He went for fast full yorkers straight away as he was just looking to get them bowled. And honestly given the position they were in not a bad call. Mixed up nicely with some well-directed slower ones. That entire over was express.

SRH batting line-up sucks big time. Totally lost the match themselves.

I am quite SHOCKED to say the Least that " what are the coaches doing with Umran Malik"

May be i am wrong but it seems who ever is training Umraan is not doing a good job for Sure.

he is a Natural talent , a national treasure. coaches have to just tell him what is a GOOD BALL and what are BAD BALLS?

even my son when he was in class 8th knew that a FULL toss ball OR a SHORT BALL ( pitched at 35 %of the pitch is a BAD Ball.

they have to just tell what are good BALLS?

Good balls are ball that are on second third fourth fifth stumps. they should be pitching at Good Length( on or around) or should be a perfect Yorker.

if you bowl a bouncer , it should be chin music, hit the chin or the ears or the Head and mind you these should not be pitched at 30 % of pitch but a little more so that batsman has little time to understand.

i can guarantee that the coaches are not Intelligent enough as if they are ex international cricketers , they have the right experience and their technical expertise related to cricket would be better than mine.
