MK55 Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 Honestly done watching ipl. You can analyze all you want, the simple fact is that the pitches in this country are downright embarrassing for fast bowlers. Wood, Joseph, Lockie are dropped as well. And couple that with the size of the grounds that this country's has got. LOL I think it makes sense to be a line and length 135-140k bowler. Not express. Bounce is way more Important.

Someone like Brett Lee dint have any massive bounce to talk about but he absolutely bullied the batters in 2003 WC that was held in SA.

What he lacked was the ability to pitch the ball on the right lengths consistently unlike mcg who was deadly with lengths and bounce despite being trundler level pace

Greatest bowlers of all time like marshal holding Ambrose, mcg All had good natural bounce plus pace. No one was express. Steyn who is a tad bit overrated but obviously a great himself had good natural bounce and could mix up pace with bounce consistently. Current gen top bowlers like bumrah Cummins hazlewood shami Jansen and nortje all have natural bounce plus pace. But none being express barring nortje and he is the worst of them all. I think Malcolm was just 5 11' or something. Not tall. But I do agree that you require at least some height to be effective. As height gives you a bounce advantage naturally despite the other factors. And bounce is also a factor of your delivery stride and angle/point of release. There should be better data on that to compare the release points of different bowlers and also to what extent their bounce varies when pitched in a certain area. Not that difficult but the broadcast quality has been terrible. Natural bounce in someone like Shami is almost entirely driven by his seam position. And you won't find many express bowlers in the top bowlers' list as those bowlers are just rare. You'd find 1-3 express bowlers when you come across 50-100 plus 135-142 bowlers. Bounce ke liye bhi to pitch chahiye aur pitch me pace. Indian pitches don't provide none of that. Grounds are small too. Jay 1

Bhai even on dead pitches of india bowlers like mcgrath,walsh and holding have destroyed players by using their bounce bowling abilities. That's why they are special.

Every batsman is uncomfortable against disconcerting bounce that reaches chest/throat height. A trundler will suffer on dead trucks. A bowler who has bounce will thrive everywhere express bowling 1

Thala can't groom any fast bowler...he is one responsible for re-igniting the trundler love in Indian Cricket. He needs ready made products who just bowl the way he wants. Umesh and Ishant had their worse stats under him. Bumrah and Shami were intelligent so they survived somehow. express bowling 1
