Hardik bowled with fire after a long time.

A good percentage of deliveries in the 135 k to 142 k range.

And hit the deck hard and got bounce.

3 wickets as a result.

Pitch has plenty of pace and nip... Especially on those grassy patches..  Would have loved to see Umran today

Later on he said that Unadkad could not be brought in coz they utilized the impact sub. And that they possibly missed his services.

Going by how SRH has been acting, extremely unlikely that Umran would have been brought in when both Unadkad and Marakande were in the impact subs.

Umran should just forget about cricket.  :( or at least the ipl

Mohit Sharma , Sandeeep warrier have gone for 11+ runs per over , Unadkat and Bhuvi have gone for~10/10+ , Jansen is going for nearly 13 and got 1 wkt how bad can Umran and Tyagi go for.

If high pace bowlers were going at around similar ER, commentators would have been buzzing with all the cliches -- Faster they bowl faster it goes, compromising line and length for pace, only pace does not get you wkts etc but no heard anything on them yet.

Pace bowling techniques are more complicated than spin bowling and since Ind are low on iq, it's difficult for us to figure out.

Even in terms of tactics ,field placements, pace bowling is more complicated than slow bowling ,as the ball flies off the bat ,specially in these conditions.

nice points by ryan harris.

Guess aus will now search for weird action pacers for t20s and keep the normal pacers for tests ,odis might be a mix.

Just having a weird action won't cut it.

As he explained, bowlers need to find out a stock ball even in T20s and use slower ones as a surprise.

What we see a trend here is bowlers are using slower balls as their stock deliveries while using pace up option as their surprise weapon. That gimmick can work for some time but not in a long run.

Mohit used this gimmick for 2 years, now getting pasting everynow and then. Jaydev used this slower ball gimmick and was successful in 2017, Harshal in 2020/21...now both of them are getting belted left and right. Now no one can say what's their stock ball is, on which they have 100% mastery...I am sure they themselves don't know it now.

Bumrah in comparison is still sticking to traditional pacy deliveries and yorkers while bowling slower ones as a surprise. Execution is the key and Bumrah has an edge on it in comparison to others. Shami too is an old school pacer who has gotten success without resorting to these gimmicky slower ones and has stick to what works for him.

What works for Pathirana is his ability to bowl pin point yorkers at pace..similar to Malinga. Tushara has a different action but doesn't have that consistency yet..hence he often goes for runs..

Tushara doesn't have the pace Pathirana but he swings the new ball which is a wicket taking option in PP and the reason for the wickets he is getting now.

That's why Ganguly is tactically regarded as the best captain. All 3 Indian pacers were clocking 140+ in 2003 WC...he maintained good captaincy and allowed them to bowl quick traditional pace deliveries.

MS was a brilliant reader and his placement vs spin is top notch. But he can't manage pace well, Kohli managed pace in longer formats well but struggled to manage them in white ball format.

Pitches too play a key role...same Wankhede yesterday was looking like a bowlers paradise. Flat patta will put everyone on the backfoot looking for defensive options.

Of course, not just gimmicky ones but ones with the necessary pace ,then the stock ball can be used even in these conditions.

Shami used to get hammered in ipl for a long time ,he improved in the later years. His action too isnt suited for t20s .

What if we were to attribute train names to Indian bowlers basis their speeds:

Bumrah : Vande Bharat

Shami: Durronto

Siraj: Hyderabad Mail

Ha Pa: Virar Slow

Bhuvaneshwar: Howrah Mail
