It’s all new year for all following Indian lunar calendar Puthaandu and Vishu are celebrated per a solar calendar, which is why they always fall on the same Gregorian calendar date (Apr 14) every year. Ugadi and Gudi padva are celebrated per a lunar calendar, which is why the date slides between Mar 10 and Apr 15. This year, it landed on Apr 13. Although, we count moon cycle days (14+1), but based on the winter solstice (uttarayana) and summer solstice (dakshinayana), we adjust our lunar calendar to the solar cycle to adjust to the precision of equinox and hence we add a adhika maasa, once every few years. Nikhil_cric Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Yugadi habba is not celebrated all over Karnataka on the same day . In Coastal karnataka, they follow the solar calendar so it wasnt yesterday. It is today just like it is for malayalis.
