i do agree, That Smith's greatness is being brought down by this fab 4 narrative which tends to push the agenda that these four are equal to eachother, when Smith light years then the rest.

As for your new list, you are not following the fab 4 rule. The fab 4 rule is that players must be of the same age or around eachother or started playing at nearly the same time. The best four batters to fit this criteria who are also serviceable at any format are:

Babar Azam (27)

lightyears

Marnus Labuschagne (27)

lightyears x100

Aiden Markram (27) (also unable to fulfil potential for his quality batting strokes)

lightyears x200

Shreyes Iyer (27) (barely played anything and untested)

Rahul? Mental midget though. He played good knocks at home too. He only has issues in SA ans Australia. Did well in England last time. Hadn't played much in kiwi land.

I would say right now rankings is as follows:

1) babar

2) rizwan

3) smith

4) marnus

5) shafique

Tough pill to swallow for the yendians.

This ranking is based on recent series.

Babar is the best out of 2 teams correct. Long way to go for the midget though.

Babar is a poor man's Joe Root.

Babar already has a century in Australia. Root has like dozen 50s there. Babar hasn't peaked yet, so we don't know really. That innings yesterday might be the moment he graduated into the big league

There ain't no fab 4

It's Smith

Light years

Root

Kane

Kohli

Off the younger ones

Pant

Babar

Conway

Rizwan

Sundar when he is injury free will be the most clutch batsman in the world. Better than even Pant. Just wait and watch. Provided he is injury free ofocourse. Kid is made of glass.

Yes, Smith is light years ahead of anyone. let's not forget that he has played a good chunk of his tests in the late 2010s and 2020s - a period that was historically very strong for bowling (especially fast bowling). and yet God (Smith) has an avg of 60+ as of now.

Yes.

Also, I would put Kohli ahead of Kane in Tests. Kane has mostly bashed weak attacks and his away record is poor.

kane has been subpar overseas but is at least consistent. with Brat, we have seen a huge dip after 2019. if he continues to play for some more yrs with the same form, even his overseas record will go below KW.

Labu is so overrated. He never plays chance less innings. He always offers catches in every innings.

Labu is good but Gill ceiling is far far higher.

Labu is too good.  But he is little older than Gill.  Labu should be compared with Babar Iyer in his age group.

Zak Crawley vs Gill or Shafique seems better suited.  Crawley & Gill both super talents but not consistent enough.  Shafique lot less dynamic but decent enough.  Crawley is batting well in WI so far.

rizwan and fawad are both v. good; in some ways, more clutch than babar.

however, the original thread is Root vs Kohli. No comparison as of now, Root is light years ahead. in fact, on current form, he is even better than the Batting God (Smith).

Root has left him for dead for a while now. I will say this. Peak kohli may be slightly better than root. Root dint perform vs Aussies so that's the only factor going against him.

Kohli at his pomp performed well vs Aussies.

However, kohli has always struggled vs Cummins. Even in 2016 back in India he got owned by Cummins and o keefe.

Cummins owned him again in 2018.

Kohli smashed a weaker bowler in Johnson. He was average vs Cummins in australia. Kohli did do well vs rabada and steyn so that's why I put him above Root.

Smith god

Smith peak

Smith SSj2 (we are seeing this one now)

Smith SSj1

Kohli peak

Root canal

Then Kane overrated asshole.

Pant can usurp all of them tbh. Sundar the clutch man but glass boy can get there too. Shades of early Smith in him. You don't just smack around prime Cummins and prime hazlewood especially in a crucial moment like he did and not be talented. I wish someone can just make him strong and less injury prone.
