Was that worst display of captaincy in home conditions?

Usually opposition captains struggle to control tail in away matches. While we can give all credit to Indian team, it was surely one of the worst captaincy I have ever seen in home test. Root spread the field for Shami and Bumrah and allowed them to just get singles easily on relatively easier batting conditions.

 

On the other hand, India showed that pitch didn't have much to offer, so bowlers needed to go on all out attack to get wickets. 

 

There could be multiple reasons. England is missing Archer, Broad and especially Stokes who runs hard and bowls with heart on flat pitches. 

 

Additionally it didn't help that England went on revenge mode by targeting tailenders with short ball. Probably they were confident of pepper and wrap up tail easily without costing too many runs after seeing how Pujara and Rahane struggled for each run.

Despite missing these seamers, England have equally good like for like replacements in Wood for Archer and Robinson for Broad.

 

But England did miss Stokes a lot, primarily his batting and to some extent his bowling.

Correct me if I am wrong, but India did have players missing when we played England at home? I know Jaddu missed, the fact that Axar performed exceptionally well is credit to our development, but Jaddu in India is the same as Stokes for England.

Credit needs to go to Bumrah here.

 

Attacked hard the English bowlers when they were batting. When he came out to bat, the Poms decided to retaliate with short pitched deliveries and spread fielders, before England realised their mistake the lead ballooned out to a safe total.

I feel that Paine’s captaincy in the last two tests during our 2020/21 tour was far worse.

Absolutely  !

 

Jadeja is more than Stokes in home conditions because as a bowler he averages in the low 20s at home + his batting is gun now.

 

Plus we were missing Shami and Umesh who are amazing at home too.

No jaddu no shzmi who averages 21 in India. No umesh who averages 23 in India.
