No. I think on the basis of his contribution in Aus alone, deserves one last run in home

conditions.

I know it is an unpopular opinion but Rahane deserves one final shot at home but should be dropped for the 5th test

you mean just one series right?

Can be his farewell series if he performs according to expectations

Yes. Now if he scores double centuries for

fun there which won’t happen then he saves his career.

Now he shouldn’t play if the opposition is Bangla,WI etc but deserves one final run against a good team at home.

In fact the next time we play a weaker opponent at home both Rahane and Pujara should be “rested”

our first home series is vs NZ.

Don't mind him playing there as there won't be any quality spinner though personally I think home series should be used to blood in youngsters and try combinations.

At current rate Rahane will play at least 120 tests even if his average falls below 30.

He is there to make Kohli look good, that's his only utility in the team. The minute Rahane is out, questions will be asked about Kohli's lean run of scores. Also the lobby factor.

Ball in BCCI's court. If there is an iota of accountability left in Indian cricket, Rahane has already played his final match for India.

Only if Sky comes and swoops the Number 5 spot with a century in next match, if Vihari plays, then Rahane will still have a chance to make a comeback, but I really hope they give SKY a chance, you don't want to waste that batting form of his in any formats.

Why no one is thinking about Gill taking the place of either Pujara or Rahane. India needs to drop at least one of them vs NZ .

By the end of NZ tests we should earmark replacements for Pujara & Rahane . We have 1 investment to make by way of Gill . Just find another guy -Need to find out who among Vihari, SKY, Shaw,Washy  etc can come good .

My gut feeling is that Pujara has slowed down and will struggle against high pace looking how he played in AUS and against Wood in ENG.

I would watch keenly how he copes up to Wood in next match.  He may make runs if bowers are not 140+ as he did in 4th test but in SA he will face Nortje, Rabada, Ngidi

and most probably this could be his last test series if my assessment of his inability to score vs high pace is correct. I may be wrong . Lets see.

Re: Rahane - does not deserve to be in the XI and should not be selected for NZ series . Instead should play domestics and if he piles up runs , he can be included in 15 fpr SA and take it forward from there.
