So why does Sachin average only 44 with the bat at 86 str rate compared to modern day bats then?

He bowled as a change when bats were set in most matches as he wasn’t a regular bowler. His was man with golden arm like Steve waugh or Hansie cronje. They were only called when everything else was failing. Batsmen were bound to attack them. Its reflection on our poor bowling lineup that Sachin was called to bowl so often and hence we had so many wickets.

Also Sachins bowling can be divided into two categories. One when he used to bowl slow medium pace, But i recall that after that series against Australia where he prepared so much in advance against Warne that he himself started very good spin. And then by end of his bowling career, he had injuries and had to choose either bowl or bat.

^ I don’t know if people understand what a icon Sachin was. I recall we were watching India WestIndies test match in Wankhede. Spectotaors were chanting For Dada to give bowl to Sachin. Dada was not obliging. So we got pi$$ed. Whole Wankhede started chanting “Nagma ! Nagma!! nagma!!!”.

Dada finally obliged and called up Sachin to bowl just to please crowd.

So, Indian spectators behaviour was not unique to Wankhede. If anything spectators were very well behaved that day. Same scene would have been repeated in many ground where spectators forced Indian Skippers to let Sachin bowl. Cameras used to capture just noise/roar. Commentator cant say that crowd is chanting Nagma Nagma to put pressure on Dada :phehe:

once @New guy argued sachin was a better leg spinner than kumble :hmm:

seen many times , when sachin bowled legspin , he could turn square

Likes of Kumble and Afridi were more like gentle medium pacers than spinners. Both relied on bounce n skid. Kumble was better, as he should be as a specialist bowler. But Sachin as an all-rounder is very underrated, one of the best outfielder, one of the fastest runner between wickets, handy with the ball like Afridi and Kallis. People often said he was not a captaincy material, which is hard to fathom as he was not mediocre in any aspect of the game and certainly was street smart as his bowling proved. He was just captaining the worst team ever to field for India, mixed with match fixers. Ganguly was lucky with Zaheer/Harby/Sehwag/UV and Dravid peaking in 2000s. Anyways it was Sachin who coincidently rose with TV viewership in India and filled the coffers of BCCI and everything fell in place and talent kept unearthing itself. No one had more impact on direction of cricket than WG Grace and Sachin. [/offtopic]

Wow, don't you think that you are exaggerating.

Afridi has nearly 400wkts in odis at 34, Kallis took 280 odd at 31, they were proper allrounders, Sachin was a part timer and that too only in some part of his career. Not even as good as Yuvi let alone Kallis.
