Here is the thing about South Afirca. Always those who are prepared to counter attack get more runs. Kapil Dev came in at 31/6 or something and thrashed the bowlers all over. Then Azhar/Tendulkar counter attacked. Azhar Mahmood did counter attack once in response to Pat symcox 100 i think.  Later Sehwag/Tendulkar at Blomefoentine counter attacked. Most recently Hardik Pandya counter attacked. With field up and super fast outfields you can score quicker here. On tough pitches that is the best way to go. You cannot defend your way out as you don't know which ball will get you. Openers have to make that assessment how difficult the pitch is and communicate to others. A reason why our 2000 batting unit was more successful in tougher conditions was this communication. Especially Dravid was king of partnerships. He is an effective communicator at the crease. Hope this culture is instilled within our current set up.  Although Kohli would be the one that is likely to score runs here, the current Kohli doesn't give me any confidence.  Pant and Iyer are my picks.
