Just wait a couple of games, and a few lower scores, his test batting average will drop a bit below 35 temporarily, and 'smart-bois' will start bashing him that he's not good enough as a batsman, not that great with gloves, etc etc.

In theoretical agreement with the above but unlikely to play out.

Pant missed out on the home buffet against NZ so his stats have suffered but India has a lot of buffets arrayed at home in the coming months - against Lanka, Bangers, and even the Aussies are dead meat.

I don't want to make a loose comparison, but not unlike Veeru, I expect that Pant isn't going to be as switched on against the weaker teams as he is, in these pressure games.  He's going to be inconsistent for the most part and not really the boot-filling type of batsman.

I mean, it doesn't really matter.  But the innings he's played in the last couple of years, so many long-term test cricketers don't manage over entire careers.  He's a value-add as long as India can afford a bit of inconsistency from him.

In Indian conditions, Pant will steamroll bowling attacks whirring in 3rd gear. 5 times out of 10.

We'll find out in due course how switched on he is when playing at home against so-called weaker attacks but unlike Viru he'll come at 6 when his team would already be in some sort of ''situation'' and his plan worked out for him. So that guardrail should help against complacency.

yes, middle order is so weak that he will need to do rescues often

As long as you treat his batting as a bonus that criticism will not surface. But if his contribution is considered a must every innings each failure will be magnified. It will get magnified bigger if the dismissal due to some hackish shot.  As per Dravid they only try to enhance his shot selection rather than changing his approach. This is the kind of knock Kapil used to play regularly. Sadly most of them were futile because our bowling was no up to the mark. So most of them came in losing causes.

in these days, every keeper is expected to bat and score runs
