Is Team India back to it's unsettled and chaotic status like the past? How to be optimistic?

I feel we are in a worse situation than we were in 2000 when Tendulkar quit captaincy or when we had the 2007 ODI WC debacle.

The biggest reason is that we do not have good (young and long term ) captaincy material in the team. I don't want to talk about KL. He just evokes disgust because of his woke mannerisms and pusillanimous body language. He is a mediocre/inconsistent performer & I do not think he is even an automatic selection in the side.

Rohit is almost over the hill & not a long term solution.

Unfortunately, Dravid too is not a dynamic individual or a street smart planner and executer.

I sort of feel gutted because I always felt the kind of talent we have, we should be gearing towards many many years of domination.

How far are we from having a settled Test batting team that will help us continue the domination like we did before the South Africa debacle?

How far are we from having a definitive  core group of match winners for the 2023 WC ?

Was it the right decision to have a would be 36/37 year old ( Rohit Sharma ) as captain for the 2023 home WC ?

What a total effing mess.

We are disgraceful in terms of how we totally lack planning for the future and how we squander resources and talent.

Even  tiny Sri Lanka with relatively meagre resources ( with a population 1/3rd of a single Indian state like Tamil Nadu )  with similar 3rd world problems is a 100 times better than us.

I do not have a very hard regard or awe for either Dravid as coach or Ganguly as BCCI head. They are both good in very limited roles but not as visionaries and contemporary cricket planners.

Quite frankly, what makes you feel optimistic in these times ?

In short

With no domestic cricket, it is natural to depend on A circuit to look for new players, we might be good in bowling reserves, but batting cupboard is bare. We have

Vihari

Iyer

Baba brothers

 Devdutt Padikkal,

Sarfaraz

SRK

looks bleak for the future

Whoever has decided to uproot Kohli from this test captaincy post is playing Russian roulette with his legacy. Kohli guided Indian test cricket from a sinking ship under MSD to a thriving entity. Anything barring at least parity with status quo (amongst a host of metrics) will leave an indelible mark on the careers of decision makers

what about gill, shaw, gaekwad, etc? SRK is a LOI specialist. Aparajith is very inconsistent. I have seen his bro bat - rather underrated crisis player.

At the moment it does seem like his own decision.

India have got plenty of talent who are hungry to prove themselves and take the places up for grab . But problem was we were playing with same old players forever with hardly any new players coming in ,it's time to start afresh .

based on this 0-3 shellacking by under-strength SA side, the signs are ominous

How exactly are they understrength, agree they didn't had nortje, but jansen, rabada, ngidi and oliver was a very good attack in sa conditions, plus elgar, Peterson, bevuma and dussen showed that they have it in them to guts it out, with guys like brewis and farhdeen waiting in wings and their bowling line-up ,sa will only rise from here, meanwhile our team is entering transition, rohit, Kohli, dhawan, rahane, pujara, Bhuvi, ishant, Umesh, ash all are entering their Twilight years .

Talking about odi mate. Even still only missing nortje and rabada. Olivier and co don't play odi.

Not even understrength rofl. What the * are Indians smoking. Missing 2 players albeit key players. Rabada record over the past 2 years is abymsal in odi iirc.

Their batting was full strength. If anything we have quota fill ins.

We are missing the following;

Shami who torments s Africa btw. Old but still.

Siraj (prasidh dint play first 2 games)

Pandya

Gill

Shaw

If anything we need young blood in. Our players atm are washed up quota fodders.

Exactly now picture this batting that we missed;

Missed ones are numbered

1) Rohita (not that I rate him but he is good in bilqterals )

Dhawan or ishan

2)Gill

Kohli

Pant

3)Pandya

4)Sundar/jaddu

Thakur

Chahar

5)Siraj

6)shami

7) bumrah

Almost 7 players missing. Albeit prasidh is very good so let's say he replaced shami. So 6 players.

Saffers missed a grand *ing total of 2. Where do these numbnuts get their stats from rofl. Under strength. Rabadas record over last 2 years is 45 in odi. Only nortje missing and this is a patta pitch paradise. Doubt he would have added much to this team on these pitches. Although his pace can skittle through number 9 to 11. Both chahar and thakur never played in tandem alongside bumrah and prasidh. Both thakur and chahar can tonk pace. Their issue is actually spin believe it or not. Thakur always gets out to spinners even in tests.

Quest for power of some shameless people has brought about this situation. Those who complained against Kohli, what's there performance in the recent series.

talking about ODIs here. I was referring to 0-3 result in ODIs, not the 1-2 in tests. and that SA side had people like Magala and so on; even Pretorius opened the bowling
