In general, people underestimate what we have and crave for something else that does not exist saying that something will solve all their problems.
Like the saying goes, "Grass is greener on the other side".

But we need to relish that we have two of the top 3 ODI batsmen of the current time in our team and they need to be supported well by youngsters to make a formidable unit.

One thing about the ICC rankings which needs to be included, is that during the ICC tournaments, a players contribution/weighting with bat or ball should be the equivalent of that player doing well when playing in an AWAY series.

Also a players performance against a team that is outside the top test nations, should be weighted a lot less.

India's performance in the T20 WC was abysmal and the rankings need to reflect this for the players.

As an example, India in no way should be considered a Top 4 cricket nation in T20s.

Not to mention the pathetic performance by our batsmen in those ICC tournaments need to be reflected accordingly.

Kohli and KL in the Top 10 of T20 batsmen is a joke. The recent ICC T20 WC needs to reflect the players that did well, on the biggest stage.

I do like how India has not a single player in the Top 10 for bowlers and All rounders. This is accurate.

ICC rankings are mostly a joke anyway. there is some accuracy to them, but by and large they need not be considered too seriously.

In the end, performances in meaningful tourneys (WT20, ODI WC, CT) are what matter and what one remembers. it's not (always) about the "template" and the "process", but about results.

It's always about the process but process has to be right in the first place to get right results.

Rankings are based on performance overtime, not just one tournament.

Thats why India who are bilateral wonders have unfair high rankings.

The tournaments should be weighted more. Its a much more true reflection of performance and ratings.

these rankings need not be taken seriously. if, for instance, one takes ODI WC knockouts, likes of Smith and Gilly have more impactful innings than our current top 3.

It is subjective what you take seriously and what you don't. The rankings are a reflection of how good you are on average rather than some instances.

South Africa was consistently ranked highly in the 90's in ODI cricket.
Granted they did not win world cup but they are still regarded as of the greatest ODI teams that played the game and consistently outplayed oppositions in many conditions.
Hansie Cronje had a win percentage of over 80% over a prolonged period of time.

I will care for bilateral success too along with triangular series or Quadriangular series (such as Asia Cup etc.) along with World Cups for determining how entertaining they are.

Scoring on a WC knockout is not the alpha and omega point for me although I would like them to score in those situations too.

that's fair enough, although I will personally give a much higher preference for multi-nation tourneys (Asia Cup also counts in this sense), especially WC.

Rankings are always relative. Not long ago Rahane was in top 10 lol Only reason he was there because he sucked less than vast majority of the batsmen. Not because he was going through amazing patch.

because they eat up most of the balls in the innings and play cautious to their cause than the teams cause.
