Moshin needs to be played in the T20s in WI

The team for the 5 T20s against WI to be played in WI/USA is expected to be announced tomorrow if I am not wrong ... Moshin deserves a shot.

Selectors have given chances to Avesh & Arshdeep, both of whom are competitive, however, Moshin has the extra gear:

  • Can crank it up to 150 kmph when required
  • Uses the bounce and length well
  • Can get some zip off the pitch esp. if it has cracks
  • Brings in the left-arm angle
  • Offers consistency (though in T20s anyone can get hit on good batting surfaces)

At the moment, below are my preferred 4 bowlers for the upcoming T20 WC:

  • Experienced bowler slot: Bumrah
  • Most (not all) stages bowler: Moshin (as discussed above)
  • 3rd pacer: Umran (x factor & pace)
  • Spinner: Yuzi/Kuldeep/Bishnoi/…

Supported by (the team can get 4-8 overs here)

  • Pace: SDP (Hardik)
  • An over of off spin: Hooda
  • The "#7": - Sundar (if fit and batting well as he can bowl off-spin spin in PP too) ... or Jadeja/Tewatia/VIyer (if batting well and to bowl 1-2 overs) ... or Harshal/D Chahar (if batting well too)

Would have been too soon for Mohsin. He will be unleashed in WT20 ....

Of 2024.

If still at his best (or near best) … Fast bowling effectiveness can change with a niggle, age, form, etc.

Right now in 2022, he is good to go!

Yeah but you fail to consider the waiting period for a youngster in Indian Cricket. If someone does well now, he has a year to get himself on the back up squad. Another year to play. It's all planned

One of the reasons Ind usually plays catch up. One can do that with batsmen; for bowlers, you need to get them in when in rhythm (and based on suitable conditions).

While Umran has 21 wickets (before Sunday's game), most of which came in the first phase when batters were getting used to his pace, it is understood that the selectors were far more impressed with Mohsin.
The Uttar Pradesh left-armer has taken 13 wickets from 8 matches at an astounding economy rate of 5.93 compared to Umran's 8.93 in 13 games.

However, Mohsin's dodgy hamstring made the decision easier for Chetan Sharma's committee,

Moshin did not have any major issues with fitness. Worrying about a potentially non-existing hamstring issue (for a recovered player) could be selectors being oversmart or providing excuses (to pick other bowlers).

Both Moshin and Umran, who was selected when the thread was created and bowled at 156-157 too, should have been backed.

PS in the 1st T20 warm up game in Eng, all 3 of Avesh, Arshdeep, & Umran played. The English batsmen were uncomfortable playing Umran pace. However, in the 2nd practise game, Umran was missing (Earlier under SDP's captaincy, where quicks tend to be backed, Umran got a chance to play the full series in Ireland).
