When she came to power, Sexist macho politicians thought “arrey ye to Gudiyaa hai, kyaa kar legi” (She is just a doll what can she really deliver. Those who think emergency was wrong need to understand the politics at play local and global geo politics level to get rid of her. When they realised she isn’t a doll, They alll came after her and she said SCREW you all. Nation first. If needed, She will skin so called Gandhians (Mahatma Gandhis) for the nation. We ate lucky that India had her. I don’t by BJP and opposition Jumala of emergency and democracy at risk. People at the time voted for her because they understood ground reality. She had immense support from Nehru loyalists like Kamraj who stood by her after Shastri was assassinated. She gets her Iron Lady tag for the 1971 events, rightfully so and that’s all. You can’t condone her actions in Emergency with a nation first policy excuse. It was a quest for holding onto the power seat despite being wrong. She was rightfully sentenced by the public in 1977. She won again mainly because of loyalists and infighting in Janata Party. This is what Mehru thrived on , spread stories in public with a well oiled PR machinery.
