Rishabh Pant - Strike Rate 126 after 51 T20I innings

Wade's strike rate is no better. Wade did what DK can do.  Wade predicted what he was going to bowl. Shaheen obliged it. In t20 literally anyone can play such cameos against any bowler. Shashank thrashed Ferguson for 25 runs in the 20th over. Same match Rashid khan thrashed Marco Jansen for 27 runs in 20th over.. We cannot pick players hoping he would pull off miracles. He may very well. There is no telling his alternative can't do the same.

Rohit as a captain was batting number 4 for few season for MI but opened for India, Pant did open in IPL and was successful.Nobody is a sure shot to succeed. But this guy has talent to be successful and he has shown it even on hard Australian pitches.He does not have to score 50s or 60s as an opener. Sehwag scored just 30 odd but it completely demolarised Gul in 2011 semi finals. It will remove pressure off Rohit to go from ball one, that is not his game.

 

So Pant on his day can score very quickly.

In T20 you just have to be good for 20 to 30 balls. Sometiems even 10 balls is enough. But is Pant capable of playing positively his first 20 balls. That varies. Even great batsman like Lara/Tendulkar can't do what Sehwag/Jayasuriya does although they have the ability to bat anywhere. T20 hitting is a niche skill. You don't have to be an outstanding Test batsman to do that. In Tests you get aggressive field sets. You will have plenty of gaps. In T20 you will have defensive field set. Guys like Jason Roy, Glen Philips, Phil salt, Alex Hales they have achieved nothing in Tests. But are great fit for T20.

Dhoni most of his career had SR of 110-115. Only in the last 2-3 years, it increased.

Hmm.. may be those matches where top order failed and a few where he couldn't connect in the end like 2014 world t20 final. But he was still  very effective player. He was still feared and added value and experience to lower order.

Pant can make a difference in 10-15 deliveries. He has to open and given full license to go for it from ball one. You cannot go from ball 1 if you are batting at number 4. You have to bat according to situation and that is not the forte of Pant.
