T20WC22 Knockout Discussion

T20 WCs are exciting. If held in Aus, they add another level of energy due to the coverage and playing conditions. 
 

Let’s discuss the knockout journey of various teams. Below are the groups:

 

Group 1: AFG, AUS, ENG, & NZ … SL, if it tops Group A, will join it or else Group 2, + an associate 

 

Group 2: BD, IND, PAK, & SA … WI, if it tops group B, will join this one or Group 1, + an associate 

 

* If either of SL or WI has a bad game to finish 2nd in its respective qualifier group, they will end up in the same group, making whichever group they enter tougher! In this scenario, the other group will have two associates. 
 

At this point, which are your preferred knockout teams (i.e. the ones that you would like to see)? Which teams do you think will make it?

Wi being in the qualifier is dangerous. It will only end up 2 ways, they will get knocked out in qualifiers and be totally disinterested or playing this qualifier humiliation will light a fire under them. An angry and motivated WI is as dangerous as it gets. Suddenly Odean smith will start bowling like Marshall and Brooks or someone will become Viv Richards. Have seen it happen before.

As a positive, in qualifier, you have the opportunity to play associates where you can get used to conditions and evaluate your best 11 before you go into the main groups. 
 

Which is why I won’t be surprised if SL and/or WI play well.

SA, as we know, plays 3 T20s & 3 ODIs in Ind before heading to Aus ... One positive about playing ODIs is that its batsmen will get an opportunity to spend more time in the middle.

In Aus, both WI (Oct 5-7) & Eng (Oct 9-14) will play a 2-3 match series against the host.

Teams can make squad changes up to Oct 9th without needing ICC’s permission. Even non injured players can be replaced.

SL did have a bad game in the qualifier versus NAM so that increases the chances of SL & WI ending up in the same group.
