vvvslaxman Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 This area deserves the most attention. Right now they just go and bowl random deliveries. For instance Arshdeep's best go to deliveries are Yorkers. He out of the blue bowl these length balls, bouncers (with short boundary behind the keeper), Wide short of a length balls. Moment you give width that will go after you. Especially lower order batsman. you don't have to over think when you bowl to lower order batsman. If at all any other variation he can use that is Slow yorker. It is harder to master though. Both Bhuvi and Arshdeep do the same when they bowl to tail-enders. Either they feed length balls or full tosses. Just bowl straight and full on the off stump. Sure batsman can be prepared for reverse sweep/scoop. Have deep fine and focus on the base of the stumps. So many full tosses became boundaries. Same way length balls disappeared. Bouncer with no intent have travelled for fours and sixes. Yorkers are still the best option. Field sets are also reactive. There is no collective strategy. It is pretty unprofessional. Bumrah missing 70% of the T20 games have also created a void. He himself looked out of rythm in the recent series against Australia raki05 and singhvivek141 2
singhvivek141 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 (edited) Problem is batters are able to adjust at the pace. Shami when he gets his yorkers right, is difficult to travel just because of the pace with leaves batters with less time to adjust. While Bhuvi bowling yorkers, do give then a split extra second for the batters who are more skilled. Slower the pace, higher the accuracy of yorkers need to be, and if it isn't then we know very well what can happen. Bumrah excels that's why because he don't give much time to batters. coffee_rules Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 (edited) Change the OP by omitting death. Indan bowling strategy , same issues in PP as well Edited November 4, 2022 by coffee_rules
putrevus Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 You need to take wickets upfront and with spin, that is only way to slow down batting at the death. You are going to travel if batting side has wickets in hand during death overs.
Nikhil_cric Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Unless you are extremely precise and you have an action that is difficult to pick or the straight boundaries are longer etc. , yorkers are not particularly good options at the death. They need to execute the slower balls better and vary the length. For the amount of IPL cricket they play , I'm surprised none of our bowlers are good at it. They need to watch the likes of Ngidi and Naseem Shah

That new guy from Pakistan lands his yorkers very well at 143 or 144 kph. We don't even need that kind of a speed. Just a 135 k on toe toes would do.
The Realist Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 There is actually a strategy?.. vvvslaxman 1

vvvslaxman Posted November 4, 2022 Author Posted November 4, 2022 Nowadays all batsmen camp on their backfoot to handle both yorkers and bouncers. Indians are unable to adjust to that.
Dil Dil India Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 As long as we have trundlers we will keep getting smacked far more often than not. Sure pace is not everything and can get smacked too but Dravid seems to be thinking that pace is actually a negative thing. And it isnt just the pacers, our LOI spinners are terrible too. Ashwin should be nowhere near the LOI side. Chahal is a joke cricketer who wets himself in big games. We discarded Bishnoi after he bowked magnificently in the Asia Cup vs Pakistan. We will keep picking these halwa bowlers.

We will keep picking these halwa bowlers. You just need the ability to bowl fast atleast one or two deliveries. pandya hit 145k. But he is not a skillful bowler. Guys like Bhuvi never touch those speeds ever. Atleast Arshdeep touched 140k once or twice. If you can bowl even 2 or 3 balls at good speed that would do. They don't have to bowl every single delivery at that speed. That is when your slower balls will be more effective. If your actual speed is 135k and slower one is 125k. there is not much difference

But it's only bowlers who have that extra pace who can look to bowl it quick and maybe go for the odd yorker. 135 kph full balls may get destroyed. Even yesterday, Saffers got destroyed when they went yorker hunting and their attack is taller and quicker. They wee better off executing into the pitch slower balls. Would gave brought that total down by 15-20 runs
