How to fit Ishan Kishan in ODI XI without losing balance ?

Minnowbashers are underrated breed. As of now, we atleast two of Iyer, Gill, Sky in team to win even at home. Kishan can be that guy too.

 

Other guys can't make most out of easy conditions. In fact, I trust Pandya and Jadeja more than Rohit or Kohli to bat on flat tracks.

Iyer has earned his spot at 4. No way Pant beats him to that. 

So Iyer at 4 and Pant in the reserves.  The rest of the XI is the same as what I would have.

 

The TM would somehow bring in KL. So likely in place of SKY who hasn't estsblished himself in ODI yet 

 

11 will be Umran or Kuldeep Yadav based on conditions

Pant scored ton in England. Iyer has only been a home bully so far. His short problem is huge. Even BD exploited it

I think Iyer is the only consistent MO batsman. Besides INdia's biggest weakness is  spin not pace. They struggle even against Livingstone on a flat pitch in a T20 match. There is no one better than Iyer in that category since Pandya has regressed badly against spin.

Pant is good v spin too in ODIs and Tests.

I think Pant before world T20 is different from after T20. Put on weight. Horrible running between the wickets.  Poor shot selection, game awareness.

He has to stay humble and work towards consistency. At this point i don't even consider him an X-factor player as most teams have figured out how to keep him quiet.

you are mixing formats. He's fine in ODIs and Tests.

He can only purely as a keeper. Not as a specialist batsman.  At this point Samson, Kishan have improved their stakes. Besides Management is looking at KL Rahul as keeper.  With guys like SKY, S Iyer around i can't see how he will find himself in the playing XI.   Kishan/Rohit/Kohli - set  Pandya is set. If Jaddu comes in he is set.  That is 5 batsmen set. Only 2 spots left.   Pant, SKY, Shreyas, Rahul, Samson, Sundar to fight for 2 spots.  Atleast one of them has to be  a consistent crisis man which is where Shreyas Iyer comes in. SO there will be only one spot left.

Because he has delivered at every opportunity. And he averages 48 striking at 96 which are very decent numbers for a middle order batsman.

He is a home track bully, which gels well with the fact that the WC is going to be played in India.

We can't be so short sighted. Do we drop him after WC as he's tailenderesque in bouncy conditions.

He did well in NZ against Milne, Ferguson. I don't think that is the issue here.  Problem is India is known for dramatic collapses. We had inform Kohli and Dhoni to save us. Right now we have nobody to do that role. There is a good chance we may get bowled out inside 40 overs once the top order blown away.  That is where India needs someone like Iyer.

Players get better with time and experience.  Rohit was a dud for many years in international cricket and then rediscovered his batting while opening. Iyer will get better with time in pacy conditions.

Situations like this. You can collapse anywhere. But he is probably the most reliable so far. He finds a way to stick around even after collapse. Even during SKY's insane innings he stuck around although couldn't score much.
