putrevus Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 How about we start with Shaw not looking like an uncle with pot belly. He is 23 and his fitness is horrible. Gambhir is an idiot who has no clue what he is talking about in general. Chakdephatte and Adamant 1 1

We can blame him alone if BCCI had officially said that his fitness is the reason he is out. It was never the case. He was dropped twice after playing a 3 match series both times. He didn't fail both times. And his test debut was memorable, in fact. His attitude has to be questioned, not denying it. But there are ither examples as well, Agarwal and Gill played 2 and 3 LOI games before this year. How much were they expected to score there?

That will cause him more harm. But he sure would have been reminded by most players. The fitness under Kohli and Shastri regime was top notch but under Dravid-Rohit it looks they are taking the captain's example. He is 23 and why are we acting as if his time has already passed.

I think jasiwal has leapfrogged him in both ability & consistency Edited December 30, 2022 by Vijy

Agreed. Under kohli shastri we were easily the fittest team around. Reason why we were number 1 for 5 years almost. It all went downhill after that rat faced rohit took over. However, kohli despite being super fit is still just not good enough anymore for test.

Gill only started getting consistent run since Dravid took over and scored ton last game. Backing talented played through their struggles is important too. I thought Shaw has a drinking and discipline problem.

Nha don't think so my dude. India play much more than nz and SA and even aus. We play way more games overall. Our bowlers were supremely fit and it showed because they were number 1 for a while. Batsmen are a bit suspect with fitness levels. Not sure how a few of them passed. I agree with that.

I agree with that. well, the team has 6+1+4 or 5+1+4+1 AR. so, yes, I think some of our batters were supremely unfit. even in bowlers, ashwin is & was quite unfit, compared to, say, lyon. speedracer 1

True ash. I think issue with ash is more to do with poor diet rather than fitness. He is fit but poor diet isn't allowing him to reach his optimal level. Following a strict diet as an athelte is extremely hard. Look at pant rohit etc. Munching on par bhaji vada pav etc. Vijy 1

Adamant Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Yeah, this is really cool. Blaming others for failing in your own career. What has Gill done in tests, where he has gotten so many chances, With Shaw I can see some injustice

Majestic Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Both of them have themselves to blame .. Gill has got his chances and he hasn't demonstrated any bit of young Kohli to believe he is some kind of young revelation. Shaw wasn't dropped unfairly either. Those who follow IPL 2020 remember pretty well how half decent bowlers were able to expose his big gap weakness of bat and pad with the new bowl. When the Aus series started, Gill clearly looked in a better frame of mind among the two yet Shaw got a fair chance with the first test before getting dropped.

Kohli if he wants to have long second innings in test cricket has to take a break and go back to domestic cricket and work on his game.He is useless and walking wicket right now. speedracer 1

Yea it's really sad to see him decline so young unless he is actually older than stated age. His reflex is gone. He is not as technically gifted as say a Tendulkar or root. It's going to be hard for him to hit those peaks he reached again. Vijy 1

I would persist with Gill still. Play him in MO. He is just not an opener. Adamant 1
