Nidhibic Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 India The maximum PCT Sri Lanka can reach is 61.11. To beat that, India need to win at least one more Test match (two draws will not be sufficient – that will take them to 60.65). If they win neither, they will have to back New Zealand to prevent Sri Lanka from pulling off a 2-0 sweep. India-Australia possible PCT tallies India 4-0 Australia – India 68.06, Australia 59.65 India 3-0 Australia – India 64.35, Australia 61.40 India 3-1 Australia – India 62.50, Australia 64.91 India 2-0 Australia – India 60.65, Australia 63.16 India 2-1 Australia – India 58.80, Australia 66.67 India 2-2 Australia – India 56.94, Australia 70.18 Sri Lanka A 2-0 win will take Sri Lanka to 61.11. That is a prerequisite for them to qualify – and even that will not be enough. They will qualify if and only if India win both Test matches or win neither. In other words, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will have to end 4-0, 2-0, 2-1, or 2-2 in India’s favour for Sri Lanka to have a chance of qualification. The other alternatives (India winning 3-0 or 3-1) will ensure India claim the spot at The Oval June 7-11,2023 Resources Wisden
javier26 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) So if its 3-1 then irrespective of the result of the NZ SL Test series, it will be an India Australia WTC Final... Right ? That's what most likely will happen . Or if there's a 2-2, Australia will qualify for the Final but India's chances would depend on NZ SL Test Series. If SL indeed washout NZ then it will be a Australia SL WTC Final. Edited March 2, 2023 by javier26

Sandeep99 Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I hope India qualifies so that Lolli, Pujara, Rohit, KL get another opportunity to piss their pants on the world stage yet again. Austin 3:!6, Lord, Frustrated and 2 others 5

Jadeja has averaged 41 with bat and 31 with ball away since 2017. That batting average is itself better than many of our specialist bats. Ashwin 22 with bat and 30 with ball. Not great but not bad either Edited March 3, 2023 by Lord AuxiliA 1

Not great but not bad either Fair enough - then they can try to win a match for India at the WTC or like Siraj/Shardul/Natarajan did bowling at the Gabba. Lets see them win matches for India overseas - overseas meaning outside subcontinent and not just WI at that - like say Warne did for Australia. I can't think of any prominent matches won by spinners overseas in the last 2 or even 3 decades.

Lone Wolf Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Who cares we will lose the finals... However if Lolli Gujara all fail then it is totally worth it. Australia is the best team in this cycle & they deserve it. Lord and Frustrated 1 1

Lets bring them all back. Im sure Dhoni is regretting retirement seeing how long some of these players can perform so badly and yet remain.

No spinner will do well in those conditions. But no matter the surface you need atleast 1 spinner in the team anyway. Just be grateful that we have Jadeja and Ashwin who can bat very well on top of their bowling. They aren't just bowlers but All-Rounders. No other spinners in the world can do what they do. deepdynamo Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 Its going to be Ind vs Aus. No way SL whitewashing NZ 2-0. Australia deserves to be champion though in this cycle but India can spoil their party just like NZ spoiled India's party last cycle when we deserved to be champion.

Ok hopefully India and Aus play in the WTC and we see the dynamic duo of Jadeja and Ashwin perform their magic with the bat and ball on a neutral ground. Can't wait for their show.
