The bowling for the first test with Cummins + Boland + 2 spinners was not enough. The two spinners got tired towards the end of I1. Second test bowling was better but still with 4 bowlers.... should have had 5. Green's availability changed things for test three. SRT100 1

I think where @express bowling is going with that comment is that Axar really hasnt bowled at all this series. Kuldeep must play, its the only X factor that India has up its sleeve in the squad that could surprise Australia. I would play SKY as well, we need another batsman. express bowling and AKane 2

Asswin should be dropped. ditto for siraj. he may "trouble" aus batters, but he never quite takes wickets like shami, bumrah, umesh, etc at home. so, I would say asswinder and siraj should be dropped and we should play 2 others batters Most of our batters don't score runs these days. Hence I am playing Axar as a pure batsman. So there are 5 bowlers effectively. Bringing in the other available batsmen in the squad won't give you runs. Ahmedabad may require a bounce bowler. Siraj may not be getting that many wickets this series but his intimidating stuff often leads to others taking wickets Mosher and SRT100 1 1

How f**king stupid is it then, that we bat him so low down the order??? Its a joke. I would play him clearly ahead of every batsmen bar the openers. express bowling 1

Sandeep99 Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Rohit Gill Jaiswal Iyer Sarfraz Ishan Kishan Jadeja Ashwin Axar Kuldeep Umesh
Sandeep99 Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Doesn't matter who we pick as long as Australian spinners aren't neutralized. Pant did that in Australia. Our middle order is a sitting duck without an iota of innovation. Time to make some radical changes for the next cycle. But of course we won't.

I do think Axar is effective batting at number 8 or 9 (this series in India) - we will see if he is effective batting at number 6/7 or above. Many a lower order bowler batting well there when promoted up the order tend to fail in the batsman position. Edited March 5, 2023 by AKane express bowling 1

The time to promote a batsman is when youre on top and to take further advantage of the opposition. When India were about to overtake Australia and make them bat again, I would have promoted Axar there and then. Nevertheless depending on who Kuldeep replaces, it will also strengthen our batting albeit it marginally. But enough to potentially be a problem.

However I 100% agree with you, without Axar's contribution with the bat, Im confident Australia would either be leading 3-0 or 2-1. Axar must play, zero doubt here.
tapandrun Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 (edited) Can Axar be promoted at #3, and may be drop Kolhi at#5/6 . And try Kishan as wkt keeper nt that he is any better than Bharath but changes needed in batting Edited March 5, 2023 by tapandrun
Sooda Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Axar has been one of best batsmen, though he hasnt bowled well. Cant change now, but can arguably bring Hardik in for Umesh. He just needs to bowl 6 to 8 overs in a day. Gives us batting till 10 which we need haha
G_B_ Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 India needs a deck where good spinners are differentiated from bad spinners. Its also interesting to see that sides batting first have lost all the tests (those winning the toss as well). BacktoCricaddict 1

I am not happy with asswin playing as pure batter though. the spin bowling can be handled by kuldeep and jaddu; 3rd spinner can be axar if needed.
