If you are referring to my post, nothing like that is implied I said that selections based on one-season performance should be avoided (even BCCI has made that general guideline iirc based on learnings from experience). Exceptions include a tried & tested player who is showing good form, a player who can bring in a particular skill immediately (Harshal was brought in the past for his death bowling, Umran for pace, Varun C for mystery spin, etc., but these guys have been in and off too or been conditions specific), when a team is seeking to replace those past their prime (and there is some unusual widely spoken talent available), etc. The key group of players, around whom a team (whether IPL or national or whatever) is built (or to be built in a rebuilding initiative), remains the same over a period of time. No country picks teams based on one season or it could be changing players after every season, impacting consistency and long-term team-building initiatives! Edited May 26, 2023 by zen
