Where is Kuldeep Sen???

Bro, the omission of Kuldeep Sen shows how clueless the selectors are.

Seriously, we should stop following Indian cricket because there is neither any excitement nor any efficiency.

Player selections are being done by people with very little understanding about what works in international cricket.

6 Zones

Only 1 good pacer chosen .. Harshit Rana

Only 5 more decent pacers chosen .. Kaverappa, Akashdeep, Yash T, porel, Arora

Probably 18 or 20 innocuous pacers chosen.

This is pathetic !

P.S .. Don't know much about the NE Zone pacers.

You should change your ICF moniker to "Painful Trundling"

Laughable Things Happening...What A Shame: Venkatesh Prasad After Ranji's Highest Wicket-Taker Gets Ignored

laughable things happening...what a shame: venkatesh prasad after ranji's highest wicket-taker gets ignored

The South Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy 2023/24 season drew a sharp reaction from the cricket fraternity. The selectors chose to ignore in-form Vijay Shankar and Baba Indrajith from the squad. While Shankar shone with the bat, Indrajith was part of Rest of India earlier this year and should have been an automatic pick in the South Zone team.

The selectors also chose to ignore Jalaj Saxena, who was the highest wicket-taker of the 2022/23 Ranji Trophy season. The off-spinner finished the season with 50 wickets in only 7 matches in the Elite group. Surprised by his absence from the squad, Saxena asked Twitterati if that had ever happened to any player before.

"Highest wicket taker in Ranji trophy in India( Elite Group) didn't get picked in Duleep trophy. Can you please check whether it has ever happened in the Indian Domestic history? Just wanted to know. Not blaming anyone," he wrote.

The news of Jalaj's non-selection also reached Venkatesh Prasad, who came up with a sharp reaction to it. The former India bowling coach wrote that Jalaj's non-selection in the team is a shame.

"There are many laughable things happening in Indian cricket. The highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy not being picked even for the South Zone team is as baffling as it gets. Just renders the Ranji Trophy useless..what a shame," he tweeted.

Jalaj has been consistently ignored by the national selectors despite him being one of the top performers in Ranji Trophy in the past few seasons. And this time, he even failed to make it to the Duleep Trophy squad. Jalaj last played for India A in 2019.

Hanuma Vihari will lead the South Zone squad and will be assisted by Mayank Agarwal. Sanju Samson, who was in form in Ranji Trophy, was also ignored from the squad. KS Bharat and Ricky Bhui are two wicketkeepers in the South Zone team.

There are players like Saha who did not play so that youngsters could play and then there is this guy, 36 years old officially, unofficially maybe 40. What he wants to show by playing Duleep trophy?

Ignoring players based on age is discrimination. If he is good, he is good. I have nothing wrong with that point. You cannot shut one's career down because of age that too in domestics.  We have players playing international cricket at this age earning 7 crores every year virtually doing nothing.

not so in sports. it is common to see older, albeit fit, players in footer ignored in favor of younger players

I mean in domestic if someone performs and delivers (as against repeatedly failing)  consistently nothing wrong in giving them a chance. I am not talking about Saxena alone. I don't know how many wickets he took in Ranji. But looking at the squad it seems like quota distribution. Goa captain is part of South zone. He is 30 years old. His records are less than impressive. Sai Kishore/Sundar are other spin option. Sundar being the all rounder. He probably could have come in place of this Darshan Misal guy.

It's not just about ability with india though. Background, caste, connections and also more importantly, marketability comes into the fray.
