Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan bowling in the nets!

Could it be an indication that we are going to pick the extra batter ?

ODIs at MCA Pune since June 2013

Pace

Wickets 78,Average  32.8,Econ 5.99

Spin

Wickets 27,Average 57.69, Econ 6.03

There's clearly no point playing 2 specialist spinners here.

It's a venue for batting and pace.

I dont understand the obsession with 7 batters.

Everything is going correclty, we have 5 quality bowlers who have done the job and are basically not letting the 6th bowler( Thakur) get a chance to prove himself. We are good with the team we are having.

As of now, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya averages infinity in this tournament with bat so no we dont need any extra batter. If we have to win, we can win with what we have and we have to lose, we can lose with extra batter too by depleting the bowling.

Everything is going correctly, so far. This is a long tournament we're just 25% done

Shardul/Ashwin/Axar are floor raisers. 6th bowling if needed plus some batting at 8.

SKY is a ceiling raiser. His knock in the 2nd ODI against Aus is what he can do.

I don't mind playing SKY just to check it out.

Just because we are winning, doesn't mean we shouldn't stop trying to be better.

If Siraj doesn't get his **** together, can also try Shami.

No it wasnt.

Middle order was the problem from start and it haunted us at the end.

yup.

i think there were only 2 MO 50s in the group stage - dhoni and jadhav and in the sf we had pant, pandya, dk with dk and pant coming in at the end due to shankar and jadhav injuries.

this time we have rahul and iyer with much more experience and a more mature pandya. rahul, iyer have already hit 50s.

i would like to try surya in and push pandya, jadeja, surya up the order once qualification is done. need them to have some game time.

Drop Thakur & play Kishan..  To counter left arm spin as well as go hard at the top.

no we had it covered with KL. Dhawan's injury messed up things

KL was fringe back then and had no experience or success in middle order or even as ODI batsman before the start of World Cup. It was Rayudu and other random names at 4 followed by Dhoni, Jadhav( who was good only till 2017) and young Pandya. They played musical chairs at 4 and had no idea what to do to 6 because Jadhav luckily got less chances and hence wasnt exposed. Pandya was just a hitter back then, not a mature version. It was messup.

no. 4 they should have gone with Rayudu after giving him chances. But Rahul also was good choice and was doing well in games he played at 4.

Pandya used to bat at 7 so hitting suited him. Jadhav was valuable 6th bowler and was good with bat too. Saved us in Asia Cup Final 2018 and v Afg in 2019.

Jadhav was a problem in 2019 WC, occasional 27 ball 23 vs BD doesn't change that. No.4 was also problem,  how many matches that immature meek Rahul had even played going into World Cup. Dhoni was pretty bad himself. The current middle order is miles ahead of the 2019 one.

Dhoni won us series in Aus that year and was also good in NZ.  Jadhav gave bowling option and was in decent form going in WC

We are using hindsight. This lot too also has lot of holes. Against Aus we were 2-3 on a batting friendly track. Bigger challenges await us.

See this middle order is levels ahead of that middle order. Everyone going into '19 WC was well aware that India's middle order is fragile and that's their limitation.

This is  the best middle order India has since 2011. Its better than the one in 2015 also where we had Rahane, Raina, MSD and a nobody at 7.

Probably in Indian conditions. Kohli is like Dhoni of 2019 and Iyer will be totally exposed in SENA. Pandya has regressed in terms of hitting and Rahul is meek under pressure.

One good thing about Rohit going hard is that not only we can get quick runs. He no longer hits daddy hundreds, which lets the middle order get some game time.

This. The snail paced batting in the previous World Cup cycle made Top 3 look good.  But after 3, the batting was undercooked.
