Umran & Sen why not picked for SA tour?

Umran may not be a spray gun but hes a skiddy bowler with a lot of pace.  Such bowlers can easily become liabilities as we saw in the World Cup - Rauf, Wood etc.  It's the ones with bounce - Atkinson, Coetzee who proved relatively effective.

It's a game of fine margins and Umran needs to find other ways to be effective. Needs to maybe cut his pace by a yard and focus on accuracy and movement. I don't think he will ever be successful bowling flat out quick.

Umran didnt get the kind of success that a bowler of his pace was supposed to be. But if u really look he only got 18 intnl matches.

I agree by now he should have won 1/2 matches . Also he has not been handled properly, TM should have asked him to bowl with in the stumps at pace and use bouncers as surprise as he did in 2022 IPL.

Also looks like ODI is more suited to him, he was too sacred in t20is-not wanting to go for runs. ODI provided him chance to make a comeback even after 1/2 bad overs.

Wood- this is his first bad outing after making a comeback, and the entire team lost the form so do not want to read much into it.

Rauf- He is a role player, has a very specific role in Pak side, in absence of Naseem he was unable to step-up and take take the role of an opening bowler. Additionally Shaheen looked like fading shadow of himself, not sure if he even got upto 140 kmph.

Rauf always made a good come back in last 10 overs which is his role, in middle over and in the last.

Hopefully Umran fixes the issue, gain some confidence and bowl as fast as possible, he has v.high potential if handled properly. Have to become head strong.

V.impressed by Coetzee, think he can bat too. SA will make a formidable which they already have but as soon as Nortje joins in batting side will not have a breathing space-Nortje, Coetzee, Jansen, Rabada, Ngidi, lizaad (he is skiddy)

Umran was very successful bowling flat out quick in IPL 2022. Picked 22 or 23 wickets that season. And was sufficiently accurate too.

His troubles began when he cut down his pace after that. That doesn't make a pacer more accurate if his natural pace is quicker.

He is a skiddy bowler with a round arm action and a low release point. He will never be bouncy.

He can and should learn to move the ball at his natural pace of 143 k to 153 k. He won't need too much movement either. Just enough to beat the bat. And movement at that pace will be late movement if swing.

And he is accurate if he is told to bowl stump to stump with bouncers only as surprise deliveries  ( like in IPL 2022 ). After that he was used as an enforcer and told to bowl 4 or 5 short bails an over, which is not his forte.

So, for Umran, in a nutshell attack the stumps consistently at full pace, with some movement and use bouncers as surprise weapons only.

Too short to generate consistent bounce off good lengths.
