Mesky99 Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 I personally feel patidar should be considered for a middle order slot, best backfoot player in domestic cricket now, peak of his career, needs to tighten the defence, if the selectors and team management have any sense of building a team players should be selected on skillset and ability rather than just numbers and hype, iyer is a number 6/7 in test cricket but with a average back foot game patidar slots imo, dhruv jurel another impressive batter, important fc season for yash dull and pradosh. Gollum Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 This Aussie bowling unit has declined, not just Starc/Josh but also Lyon....he is struggling to hit his usual areas. Old Lyon would have metronomically hit those rough spots in mid 80s speed with flight, and made Babar look like a fool. Now he is mostly darting and all over the place. Boland is also 34. They too will have problems in near future. ravishingravi 1

harpicP Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 It's a disgrace to see what Aussies did to boland. Kept on choosing wayward starc over boland for overseas tests. Probably cause he is of abrolginal origin.

They can't drop Starc because he makes footmarks for Lyon to exploit, just check Lyon's record when he doesn't have Starc at the other end, you will be amazed by how ineffective he becomes. This is a 1+1 package, Lyon and Starc. Cummins is captain, so Boland is competing with Hazlewood. Edited January 5, 2024 by Gollum ravishingravi and harpicP 2

Planing needs to start from now on itself...they shouldn't give a damn about the circus T20 World cup not that they're going to win it anyways. Our current fast bowing stocks are dog **** barring Bumrah and Siraj. Shami needs to be preserved and we need to groom atleast 3 more pacers for Australian conditions. Prasidh , Mukesh and Thakur and just not it. Avesh Khan, Harshit Rana, Kartik Tyagi should all be in the reckoning.. Well 11 months left. If we are smart we can do it.

But that statement somewhat undermines Lyons ability tbh. He is a quality bowler. For someone to be so good in Australian pitches is quite an amazing feat. I am referring to his domestic record. Boland could have been played over hazlewood too. His record outside aus and England doesn't look good.

Lyon is a great bowler, but because of his line of attack and method of dismissals he needs the rough outside off to work with. He attacks one edge only unlike say Ashwin or Swann who brought both edges into play. That is also why Lyon is weak against LHBs. Swann and Ashwin enjoy(ed) success against LHBs, both prefer to keep ball within stumps...Lyon can't do that because he doesn't have a good arm ball as well. For Perth/DN we need a pace AR at #8 like prime Thakur/Pandya. But even in Adelaide D/N in 2020, Ashwin was our best bowler by a long margin, we lost due to batting failure, actually had a lead of 50 runs despite 3-4 dropped catches. Yeah we won't be able to have a balanced XI in Perth & a D/N game without a fast bowling A/R... Either SoS to Vijay Shankar or groom Raj Bawa. Both can seam the ball.. Venky Iyer can't land the ball on Seam so he can't be considered. Gollum and harpicP 2

Patidar is indeed best backfoot player in the domestics... Bit of Viru in him. Likes to play in the air. He will be good to have in Australia. ravishingravi 1

Or even better, SoS to Hardik Pandya and ensure his availability just for those 2 potential tests. If he does nakhre drop him altogether from all plans. Make clear threats to that prima donna that his future with Indian cricket depends on his availability for 2 tests in Aus. Edited January 5, 2024 by Gollum Sgattick10, Lone Wolf and harpicP 1 2

Someone finally put some respect on swans name. Guy is so underrated. Graeme Swan was one of the finest spinners of the modern era. He also was a good bat. He was instrumental in beating India in India which is like the hardest place to tour. Granted we were at our weakest state in 2012 but to this day if you ask KP or Swan or Strauss, they would still proudly state that winning a series in india was their greatest moment in test cricket along with the ashes win in Australia. Most great teams generally cant win an away series against top 4 test nations unless those nations are going through a transition phase, have an injury crisis or issues with respect to internal politics etc. West indies of 80s were the only exception as they had the tools to dominate in any era. Although, a case could be made against them in terms of the competition they faced as most sub continent teams barring Pakistan at the time were unprofessional units. In saying that, they maintained their insane level of dominance across eras so that theory is questionable. Gollum 1
harpicP Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 I feel when we tour aus this time it will be a close series but we will lose for sure. Law of averages will catch up. We do up the intensity vs them though so let's see. I believe 3-1 Aussies. 5 test tours always will favour home teams. 4 can go either way. 3-2 at best I would say.
Frustrated Posted January 5, 2024 Author Posted January 5, 2024 Total of 15 wickets fell today. So many wickets usually don't fall on the same day on any pitch in Aus.
Sgattick10 Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Was watching the highlights and wow Pak has found a really fab player in Amer Jamal. Both with ball and bat
