Why don't Indian youngsters and other players not have as much respect for Kohli as they do for Sachin, dhoni etc?

He has missed too many marquee series which doesn't help his case. What is his test legacy? Eng 2021 could have been a crowning moment for his captaincy but he ran away to play IPL with us 2-1 ahead. 

 

Dhoni's test legacy is a joke but at least he won us 3 ICC trophies. Meanwhile 2017 CT massacre in the final, '19 WC, '21 WTC F, '21 T20 WC, ending of streak against  poyzzz after giving them the biggest ICC final win in the history of cricket (marginwise, 180 runs). Kohli played Bhuvi over Shami in '17 and '19, Ashwin/Jadeja ahead of Umesh in '17.

Kohli did win test mace for 5 years though. That's a great accomplishment but it could have been even better if he made right selections.

Because Kohli is wannabe. The guy wants all recognition for himself only. But little does he know that game is plaeyd by other players also. IIRC, Simmons from WI had also called out him about his self centered behaviour after he smashed us overrated bunch in Wt20 2016 SF. He thinks earth should revolve around him only, the guy is littering or throwing waste in public- he has strong opinion, If crowd is booing opposition player- he will try to snatch the brownie points by being mahan guy. Luckily he is born in such country that individual are worshiped otherwise he is just an another ordinary impactless player who excelled in Wt20 and bilateral ODIs.

Yes but these are not organic, Kohli has a lot of this too which is why he earns so much money through Instagram etc. but the difference between this and genuine respect is very obvious. It looks like genuine respect vs artificial manufactured hype.

True. Plus he already won a WC and champions trophy before. He should have just stepped back after repeat failures in icc. He has nothing to prove but he hurt his legacy now with these ko failures

IMO it was a case of being at the right place at the right time. Bumrah (2014), Shami (2015 IIRC), Umesh (2014) had just burst on to the scene just before Kohli took over the captaincy. Bumrah was the standout bowler who made his debut in 2014 and Shami was India's highest wkt taker in 2015 WC -  before Kohli became captain. If Kohli really backed fast bowling and fast bowlers, he would've played Shami in CT2017 final, or not dropped Shami in 2019 WC semis, or not gone with 2 spinners at overcast Lord's or in the WTC final when NZ didn't even go with a spinner.

Yadav's test debut was in 2011 and he had played way before that. Shami also was average before Kohli. Look at ishants stat before and during Kohli's captaincy. 

 

Kohli was not perfect but he was way better in supporting fast bowlers than any Indian captain before him or Rohit

Not true. Ganguly was much behind his fast bowlers.
