Real McCoy Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 It will be held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, from 20 May to 9 June 2024. Novak Djokovic is the defending champion in the men's singles. He will be contending for a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title.[2] Iga Świątek is the defending champion in the women's singles.
I6MTW Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 (edited) The most open slam in years. Nadal is practically retired. Djokovic is woefully out of touch, and frankly just not motivated anymore. Sinner and Alcaraz are injured. The best chance for the likes of Ruud, Tsitsipas, Zverev to go for glory. Edited May 23, 2024 by I6MTW Gollum 1
Real McCoy Posted May 23, 2024 Author Posted May 23, 2024 Open slam but very boring also. If there is a next gen like Alcaraz beating Djokovic in wimbledon or Sinner in AO that would be great. Maybe a competitive Djokovic and healthy Alcaraz and Sinner would be great for future slams
Vijy Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 Very boring French Open as OP wrote. Djoker is past it - I think he will retire on 24, and not break Maggie's (Margaret Court) record
Gollum Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Iga will win the women's section, ATG in the making. No idea about the men. Btw Nadal-Zverev round one.

Yeah was surpised when I saw the draw. Its tough for both I think. Nadal coming off of poor form is facing one of the top seeds in the first round. Zverev being the mental midget that he is, now has to beat the clay god in his favorite tournament albeit Nadal being not so invincible these days. Could be that Nadal requested this as he may not have the confidence to beat even the 100th rank player. Maybe he wants his last match to be on RG facing one of the contenders giving him a tough fight
nevada Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Anyone but Djokodal please! Have seen enough of these two and would like to see someone new win the title. I like Sinner and Tsitsipas among the current lot.

It would be great if the winner beats Djokodal on their way through. That would be more convincing

Real McCoy Posted May 27, 2024 Author Posted May 27, 2024 Zverev beats Rafa. I suspected the draw was made up for him to leave on a high. Rafa suggested he may or may not return next year. Even his olympics show up may not happen. He is on his last legs. Him staying on after the match for an interview kinda confirms it. Man Rafa is retiring Roger has retired already. Can't believe 2005 was that far. These guys along with Novak have mesmerized tennis for 20 years. If this is Rafa's last dig, I wish him well on the retirement and his post retirement endeavors. Djoker will retire the moment he huffs and puffs and flukes his way to the 25th, because he too is totally out of gas. Aus open is his best bet, but only if the organizers give him an easy draw and if at least 2 of the new gen players are missing (e.g., sinner, alcaraz)

Novak beat these guys as late as last year
bharathh Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 How do you fluke your way to a grand slam? Esp when you are almost 10+ yrs older than your competition?

I regard Djoker as the GOAT, btw, but it is clear that he is a spent force.

He will play as much as he is competitive much like Nadal and Federer. As the reigning no.1, he is as much a threat to Alcaraz and Sinner as they are to each other. Edited May 28, 2024 by Real McCoy

He has superior stats even in head-to-head, longest serving #1 . I like to watch Nadal but the grunter is the greatest of all, imo
