Yes if the top 4/5 batter are not present in the last overs Ind does not have batting or power to score big in last few over.

There is same issue in T20i side, Ind losses steam by 17 overs. Missed 300 score because of this.

Need batters with proper power game.

This is why Rohit should explore the option of batting down the order. INdia can open with Jaiswal and Gill. or even ABhishek and GIll and have ABhishek bowl few overs.

Both in t20s and odis we have a finishing issue and data bears it out. In t20s we will address it IMO but if we select these players no way can we score 10rpo at the back end in ODIs.

Tried guys like Jadhav and DK to solve it. We always saw Jadeja as slogger for some reason lol.

Jadhav was a number 5, played the middle order role when wickets fell early.

5-7 can be someone who finishes innings. He won us 1 game and an Asia cup final to his credit.

It depends. Number 5 can be a Klassen but a Rahul as well. 6-7 are almost always all rounders, wicket keepers and must be big hitters.

But we do agree that Jadeja is neither 5 nor 6-7.

Who are finishers in t20. It is again top heavy team with only one guy who really has the top gear there.

Can this t20 team survive top order collpase. It was huffing and puffing to reach 146 in Asia cup.

It is not IPL where you get extra batsman.

Thats the problem, the prototype of the batter tried in finisher's role.

None of them are tall and none of them have power game , rinku also falls into same same category, in t20i need bit taller batters who can access both leg and off side and have proper power game.

Ind finishers can do well in Ind vs sc team but they fail vs sena teams when playing icc events/vs full strength teams.

Ind took Dk to Aus wc as finisher , yes he has those modern day t20 shots and can access off and leg side, but he lacks power game to cross Aus big boundaries so his shots were useless in Aus, even in Ind his shots barely crosses the roles.

Ind fans/viewers/Selectors does not understand this.

Take last 3 over of t20i game: if there is not so tall batter the opp. bowlers can easily contain that batter with slow bouncers, few balls out of the reach in offside and 1/2 yorker.

And if there is batter with not much power game they can bowl full and ask batter to hit down the ground.

In Ipl and leagues and even at intnl level (vs B level team ) these so called finishers can work but not in Icc events/vs full strength team

been suggesting to play vaibhav as finisher in t20is

Lets not try to fix something which is nt broken. there is still time Ind can develop a finisher if they want to.

Since there is time but not too much time , Ind will need a a domestic mo batter who plays #4/5 so that he has game for it and ability to play 35-40 balls and have power game.

Couple of ppl comes to mind (have not checked their List A stats but...) :::

Naman Dhir -- looks like he has game vs pace and spin and is tall and has some power-game, bowls bit of off-spin

Venky iyer --Lh batter, tall can play both spin and pace , can hit the ball. He bowls in domestic v.regularly but not sure it can be useful at intnl level.

Arsah khan-- A LA fast bowler and can hit the ball for 6s.

Shahruk -- He is been there in the ipls and domestic plays in TN mo/lower mo bowls bit of off-spin

Then there are stack full of LA spinners -- Shabaz Ahmed (kol player), Parsant veer, etc....

I mentioned this that ind Odi side has a problem as Ind does not have good content of t20i players and most Ind batters are accumulator (which is a good thing in Odis) but lacks that ability of extra sr, which other teams have having 1-2 t20i players in the  Side.

Aus -- they are same in odis and t20i may be 1-2 change , their batters do not lack the power by default,

SA-- Brevis, Stubbs

NZ- Phillips and stack full of proper allrounder with 1 v.strong skill

Eng--Buttler, Brook

You can't develop finishers on a dime. None of our guys are good at step hitting, effortless six hitting like Yuvraj or MSD or even Raina. These guys can't remotely match Yusuf pathan at his very best or even Irfan pathan. The guys in this list are unproven. We just don't have batsmen with proper range hitting technique against pace and bounce. All the deadly hitters we have are at the top. Vaibhav, Abhishek etc. Rohit sharma in a match got injured and batted at 8 or 9 in Bangladesh. He almost pulled off a miraculous win. HE is also the most successful super over batsman for us. Rohit can accelerate if you put him in a position where he has no choice he has to attack. Anyway that is what he is doing mostly these days.

Dhoni, Yuvi, Raina, Yousaf they all were tall and had power game that's what you look fr in a finisher, And all played in Mo for their respective domestic sides and think MS used to open for jkd so they all had game to pace the innings.

You need similar kind of player tall and having power game and now that there is so much analysis is done also need they to be able to access both and leg side.

Not saying options I gave are best ones or they are comparable to tim david , brevis, miller etc...

but they have basic ingredients to work around with, there may be more suited and high potential options too.

In regards to rohit lets not make an old horse learn new tricks, he has already changed his game playing out of his comfort zone.

fix the problem where the problem is nt to try fix where it is not, if Kolhi and Rohit are playing this wc let them play at their positions, this is where they had success , let them succeed there.

If nothing works bring Abishek as finisher after the t20i wc, do not play him odis till the t20i wc, do not mess-up his ultra aggressive approach.

And for T20i wc play Vaibhav as finisher
