Has South Africa blown up the best chance they will ever get in a final?

That loss was all on Kallis, played such a usual pathetic innings who was supposed to take the responsibility to finish game

Yes,in those days only Bevan was quite renowned to finish games no one else was close

Rhodes had that role but succumbed to Bhajji in that harakiri

Culturally South Africans like to play flashy shots rather than play orthodox shots very well. For example this is a great Saffie playing a shot - Barry Richards vs Lillee. Very like Klaasen. Yes they can play this shot but can they play the shots pasted below of Tendulkar vs Brett Lee......

That is great but unusual but can he do the below...? That is needed for tournament play - orthodox shots + unorthodox. For 30 off of 30, you need to play orthodox shots.

Their selections and processes have improved a lot since 2022 World T20.

They're on the right path for sure.

Tactical mistake was not playing Nandre Burger throughout.. although Shamsi did bowl well but they didn't had the X factor in bowling.

I hope they soon dump Jansen who has been woeful since that Rohit assault in Eden.  Mark Nicholas said the same in Test series vs India.

Burger Coetzee Nortje Rabada... The 4 pronged pace attack could work in CT.

Nortje Rabada are certain starters... Burger vs Coetzee for third pacer slot. Left arm angle gives Burger a edge.

David Bedingham must be brought in ODI set up as well.

They always have to carry passengers because of quota. Reeza Hendricks, Bartmaan this time. Plus quota is like at end of year they have to show 50-60% colored players so whenever a series is played they play more colored players. Because of this they can hardly play as teamteam and emerging white players don't get practice much.

Forgot about Baartman... Better sense prevailed that they dumped him for Finals or India would have breached 200 for sure.

This tournament was least effected by their quota selections though.

RSA have won 4 Rugby WCs, 4/4 in finals, beat NZ twice in finals.

How are they so clutch there and so mentally fragile in cricket?

Great sporting nation, much better than India in Olympics.

Reeza Hendricks is actually good. Can't say the same for Baartman. Thankfully for them they moved past Bavuma who was holding them back.

Cricket needs very finely tuned skills, especially batting not just athleticism

That last over and the runout was so bizarre! They needed 9 runs to win off the last over. The first two deliveries were hit for a 4 and they only needed 1 run off 4 deliveries with Klusener on strike! And the bowler was Damien Fleming, not someone like McGrath.

Klusener was a slogger - and when only 1 run was needed and Waugh pulled in all 9 to save the single, the gaps in the field vanished. That worked against Klusener who kept hitting straight to fielders instead of picking gaps and he was not used to batting like that. Just what I feel about it....

True but Klusener was their form player and one of their best batsman that tourney. Also, there were 2 more deliveries to go so couldn't understand the urgency to take the suicidal run on 4th delivery. Complete mental breakdown & meltdown

It's so easy to forget how good that Tendulkar guy was. Holy crap. Balance. Timing. Perfection.

Bartman had a good tournament apart from that full toss barrage over against England.

That was one of the few SA matches I watched and was surprised how they can select such a bowler who can't even land ball on the pitch. SA should've lost that match and were very lucky to get away

That was Klusener's fault. He was the main batsman in and should've communicated with Donald. Klusener was the one running blindly when there was no run to be taken. Donald was the one run out but it was Klusener to blame.

No 4 tail enders will never work in LOI.

In tests there is a chance but you got to make sure you batting is uber strong. Not filled with kela type players.

They are good in rugby where quota actually helped.

Black players don't like to bat it seems. Prefer to bowl/field

Donald dropped his bat and did not know what to do, run or stay put, and finally decided to stay put.  Klusener saw Donald had dropped his bat, was not running or even looking and kept running like a maniac himself.

There was simply no run there and Klusener just ran without even looking at his partner (Donald). There were still 2 balls left so couldn't even understand the urgency to run there. And Aussies had a chance to run them out at either end.
