Would be nice if we get a better hitter cum spinner than Washington.

Agree on all except  Iyer. I  think investing on Sai(ESP. WITH 27 WC in SA)  or Samson will be far far more fruitful for India than going for Iyer . If a wicket falls within couple of overs , does Iyer has the game or technique to counter quality pace with new ball.  SAI has much higher ceiling with better technique and better game , who knows in couple of years he could be real solid rising talent.

Iyer hitting game is quality... Sai ain't there yet.

There is time before we discard him.  Dude is mentally very strong.

Shreyas Iyer will be like Viv Richards on steroids on low bouncing Pak pattas. No batsman in the world as destructive as him on those kind of pitches. If BCCI plans to send a team to Pak, Shreyas can be backed, anyway just 6 ODIs for us before CT. 

 

But looking at RSA WC, difficult decisions must be taken post the CT, including RoKo's future.

Born in the wrong country Shreyas, had he been a Pook, they would have made him the next Quaid-e-Azam. Ideal game to match Bradman on those Lahore/Pindi tracks.

Think we could still use Kohli for w2027. He will be Tendulkars age in 2011, give or take. Depends on form of course but there is still utility value for Kohli there IMO. Rohit will be too old by then though. CT 2025 should be his last dance.

More worried about Kohli's motivation levels. Missing too many matches, and now it seems he and Anushka are looking to settle in London. If he wants to play 2027 WC he must fully commit himself.

Don't think that will be in question. Can say that about Kohli, till he plays he will give 100 percent. He can move to Kenya after he retires for all I care tbh.

Uncertainty is also not good. Like pulling out last minute from Eng tests after training just 2 days before T1 in Hyderabad, then he kept postponing his return one test at a time. He has missed many tests in last 4 years which is a surprise, cos he genuinely loves that format.

 

Anyway CT is a lock, after that all parties should come together and have a proper 2 years plan for the WC.
