Vk1 Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 most hilarious semi-final was that 2016 one.. After Rahane's tuk tuk innings Kohli and Dhoni prided in running twos and the commentators on that day were busy in boasting about fitness of those two. WI showed us our aukaat that day and we only got rid of that in the last year or so ( final is still a mental roadblock ) Ultimate_Game, Frustrated, rollingstoned and 1 other 1 3

One reason of GT being poor was the lack of power in their batting. GIll and Sudarshan are not 2/3 overs bowlers too. How most are trying to build a T20 team right now is to have a Wkt-batter and somewhat a batter in top 3 who can bowl 2/3if required and a floater who can play from #1-5 if needed. Try getting the batting depth to 7, just saw in IPL having extra batter can big impact in the mind set-up of batters. Yes team will find mitigate this disadvantage by getting more proper allrounders or pure match winners Jaiswal/Abhishek theoretically provides chances of closing/winning the matches for the team in just PP as SRH/KKR did, it was catching up game for oppositions from there on. Yes teams will come-up with their plans to counter these may be have similar kind of batters in their team to minimize the gap. or bring in some strategy to damage in PP. ODIs and T20s are two different games altogether, and should be treated as such. A ODI game has 50 overs or 300 deliveries so you still need players like Gill or Sudarshan to bat at a SR of 90-100 for most of the innings and others can bat around them. This will get you to scores of 330-350 easily. Now T20s have only 120 deliveries and teams are adding depth to have batting depth till 8 or 9. Let's say you can bat till 8, that means on an average a batsman needs to be able to play 15 deliveries each, instead of close to 40-50 needed in ODIs. That's why at max you can only have one player like Gill or Sai Sudarshan, and that too at 3. PP overs in T20 are crucial and capitalizing on those is essential to succeed and that's why you need folks like Abhishek or Jaiswal as openers instead of Gill or Sai Sudarshan. Hope selectors understand that Tests, ODIs and T20s are different games and require different skills so better to build separate teams. You may have players such as Bumrah and Jaiswal who're suited to all the formats, but majority will be able to play only one, or at max 2. tapandrun and Gollum 2

Rahane played 37 deliveries at run a ball and that cost us the win, along with those no-balls. Aiming for a below-par total has always been our biggest weakness. We saw similar theme in WT2021 and WT2022 where we somehow managed to reach 160 on Adelaide's patta thanks to Pandya's 30 ball 60 else we would've ended up with 140. Thankfully we seem to have turned the corner and will no longer play with a conservative mindset. Gollum and Vk1 2

Mitchell -NZ is good example has both games. Ultimate_Game and Gollum 2

Theirs no real evidence that it's too slow for modern t20 cricket. Obviously a higher strike rate is better hence why I'd take abishek and jaiswal over him but people are making Gill look like he is rahane In white ball cricket. West indies saved their energy by smashing sixes and catching their breath while our fielders looked for the ball. Gollum, rollingstoned, Vk1 and 1 other 4

He showed intent in WC 2023 and probably our most impactful batsman after Rohit. Plus he can take on spinners. He definitely should be in the scheme of things as he's too good a player to be discarded. tapandrun 1

A batsman averaging close to 40 with a SR between 135-140 is perfect in the top order, and ideal for no. 3. For most teams such a player can be an opener too but I would prefer likes of Jaiswal and Abhishek to go "hell for leather" in PP overs and this batsman (Gill/Kohli) comes in at 3. Not suited to open and suited to no. 3

Need4Speed Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 I am just feeling extremely frustrated with Gill...first this guy pushed Abhishek Sharma to number 3..and played zimbaber cricket..to ensure his stats..and then now got him removed from SL T20s..and himself become VC.. I am fine for Gill in ODIs and Tests to some extent but has he taken T20s by the storm..why he is being preferred over a firey talent like Abhishek..Jswal and Abhishek could have been a fearful opening pair if they performed to their potential.. Sharma should have been given 10 T20 matches in opening before making a judgement on him.. do you want to win next t2o cup or not.. fookers.. IndianRenegade 1

How can we drop a guy who scored a 40 ball 100 in T20I, and that too after performing the same way in SMA and IPL! Abhishek scored almost 500 runs in the IPL with a SR of 200+. If such a player is dropped despite scoring a 100 in intl, what exactly is the selection criteria?

IndianRenegade Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 (edited) As noted elsewhere no matter who the captain is, no matter who the coach is we always make terrible decisions in team selections. How can you drop a guys after he scored 200 (Ishan)? how can you drop a guy who scores a 40 ball 100? how can you drop a guy after bowling so well (Kuldeep)? How did a guy like Jadeja play in LOI for so long? Indian cricket has lot of talent but is still corrupt like our society. Edited July 18, 2024 by IndianRenegade Gollum and Ultimate_Game 1 1

Are you talking abt Ishan? I think Ishan skipping India games happened long after he was warming bench after 200 runs. Anyways, even if you leave him out one can’t deny what is happening with Abhishek is warranted. Guy plays attacking cricket in IPL, scored 100 in 40 odd balls in his second game gets demoted to accommodate Gill who just does stat padding and finally gets dropped. what as Gill done in T20 except for one good IPL season?
