We have have low potential ,I don't want to see money being wasted on sports in india.Also being a low iq nation we can't match them on hdi either and sports and recreation is closely linked to it.

Sports provides people employment - not only through playing, coaching etc - but also indirectly through entertainment, tourism, commerce (shops and eating etc. around stadiums or otherwise). 

 

The amount of returns on investing in making sport popular (not like how China does - but like how the Europeans and the US do) is multifold for the investment.

Sporting culture will reduce public health burden. Many diseases can be prevented/delayed if our people adopt a more sporty/outdoor lifestyle, even 15 minutes physical activity per day can work wonders when done consistently, in the long run. Not just about medals, follow the European approach to sports/recreation. 

 

People who were active in sports in their childhood, school/college days enjoy the benefits much later in life as well.

hockey i think with proper investment, revival of hockey league we can be perennial gold medal contenders.

 

simply cause this is not a big sport in any country.

Did you watch a single hockey game in Tokyo? Do you follow hockey in general to talk about quality, playing conditions?

They seem to lose a lot of money in sports unless it becomes very popular and with so many teams already ahead of us it's now not that easy to succeed.

Btw is Manu Bhaker the first multi-medal winner for India in the same Olympics? Hope she upgrades her color in her last event.

How does improving the number of jobs - even if it is paid at local levels a bad thing? Not everything has to become a franchise-based system. Do you know how many ppl get employed in universities in the US to just take care of athletes - even the less popular sports? Not to mention ground staff, scouts, analysts, journalists, etc.

Norman Pritchard, a gora guy won 2 silver medals in 1900 games, both sprint events.

 

So yeah, Manu is 'our' first.

Tokyo had some of the best quality of hockey games in recent big events, one of the most competitive and wide fields as well. But no, you have to go and demean it just because India won a medal. Cope harder.
