They were the best team in 2023 world cup they had one lousy day. In other sports it is not the case. When you've to repeatedly come up with lousy excuses like "one bad day", "30 bad mins", "bad luck" to justify a decade of failing to win across multiple tourneys it shows you're not good enough and players who fail continuously at the crunch need to be discarded.

The players have decent popularity too now so they get good sponsors too along with support from federation and govt. Did Carolina Marin make excuses that oh in Spain noone knows me despite being Olympic winner so I will not work hard. Agreed 100%. There is a case in some sports where funding is still major issue for sure.Badminton is not one of them. Should he take responsibility also as he is his mentor and explain why Lakshaya Sen is so physically unfit or why does he not have the power game. Useless from them. Even ppl like Elavenil and a few other shooters who have been part of OGQ and other sponsored programs need to be accountable for their terrible performances. The trap and skeet teams too have been pathetic. For 22 shooters we have performed poorly even in shooting. The shooting team is escaping scrutiny thanks to Manu Bhaker.

I am worried about test cricket too. We really need bcci to step in to save it. I am really hoping there are measures in place to ensure players are compensated with bonus incentives and endorsement deals only if they play test cricket for India. Cricket will die without tests imo. Also they need to ensure players play a season or 2 of Ranji before getting picked for ipl. Make it mandatory.

He is not unfit but physically weak. Prannoy looked much stronger even though he lost.

You can even excuse individuals - but in team games losing with the kind of resources you have is inexcusable. It's like some team beating USA in basketball. It can happen - but that is more a miracle than something going wrong.

As we say in fast bowling. Fast bowlers are born. Pace can't be taught. Either you have it or you don't. Express fast bowlers cant be made.
putrevus Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 I see people piling on athletes in sports like Sailing or speed walking. Giving them facilities or encouraging other sports is not wrong, They have to give all sports encouragement. That is how you grow sporting culture. People who are not performing to the mark should be held accountable rather than not giving a chance to future athletes. There are so few medal winners in India , so they get to dictate things. Untill Bronze medal is common occurance they will be given highest attention. Kron 1

Element of luck, training from a young age, great action, coaching, access to right nutrition all play a role.

He did defeat #3 ranked. If he had won, it was all well and good but he exceeded expectations.

Teachers can slobber all over their pet nerdy kids who memorize stuff but they should be sternly brought to heel if they insult athletes. A couple of fired teachers and the rest will get the message. I know teachers - a kick in their pants and they will behave themselves. Gollum, rollingstoned and Kron 1 2

Or state sponsored athletes. If we don't have enough funds to sponsor them then don't bother. Focus on other sports. Rich sports should be the least or our concerns.

Turns out he is his friend. He mentioned in the interview about that a little. Even prakash agrees he choked. Medal is what we need. Not participation. AKane 1

They sure do need a kick up backside and that does the trick. AKane 1
