Reddysaab Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Guys I have been following this thread. Thank you for your discussion. I am a very active follower of Olympics and I enjoyed this thread a lot. but guys after this Vinesh debacle I am really sad. really depressing. Please help me cope . the stars are not aligning for us this Olympics. Let me tell you another stat. India had total 6 4th place finishes at this Olympics and that too very close. That's 6 bronze medals gone! rollingstoned 1

maniac Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I never had enthusiasm for Olympics till last one apart from 1-2 events. BC these morons have raised my expectations to bring it down. Credit to hockey team though. They are the only ones who deserve true sympathy and looked world class. Except hockey team and Neeraj Chopra no other athlete looks like a cut above or a star. In the past Sindhu had that star quality but even she looks washed up now.

Their parents don't have a choice. The party takes away kids that show promise and sends them to the elite school for mapping vs a sport that they are expected to do for life. Lin Dan on winning the BD gold in London/Rio heard that his dad had passed away and said that it didn't affect him too much because he was closer to his Badminton family than his real family. I don't want any kid in India to go through this. I can deal with fewer medals in sporting events. Kron, rollingstoned and AuxiliA 3
Reddysaab Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 what is this misery for us Indian Olympics fans?

bharathh Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 I don't care even if we don't win any sports medals - but I don't want this for my kids rollingstoned and Kron 2

Not the best analogy but like check-in luggage if 50 pounds is your limit, maybe 51 will be overlooked but once it starts becoming 52 etc then you will have an issue. It’s impossible to get the perfect weight to the decimal point.
Kron Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 But honestly though, despite the narrow defeats I really really enjoyed watching our women compete in wrestling and even badminton /t.tennis etc. We should invest more for women's sports. Ofcourse men should get more funding and backing too. Let's focus on recuinf corruption in sports atleast.

Reddysaab Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 does Mirabhai Chanu have a realistic chance this time?

But I agree. Not the right way. Just have a state sponsored program but pick on merit.

But if weight limit is 50, tolerance given of 1-2 kgs and she is 2 kgs 100 grm over that’s a different debate altogether. Exactly 100g overweight over the decimal point seems too ridiculous to me and I don’t buy it.
