China collecting Golds by the minute. I think they'll finish at the top this time. It's over for the US.

US has one gold pending for Basketball which is pretty much guaranteed

We have been the best for the last 4 years. Unfortunately, not an Olympic event. Would have won at least 2-3 golds if it was in.

I don't get why not when they have events like BMX, breakdancing etc.

compound archery is more machine driven. Recurve is own skill

US will have opportunities, they have 2 Basketball finals, Volleyball too.

Then there are track events, wrestling events

That way shooting shouldn't even be an Olympic event. They should only have slingshots

Also those biking events also shouldn't be Olympic events. Have you seen those race bikes used in cycling. They have a ridiculous number of medals in that machine driven sport.

India makes team golds which are not an Olympic event.

Even this time you could see in every event both Indian shooters were decent. India has lots of good shooters but not many great shooters.

Europeans have one great shooter but others are mediocre.

If there were team events we could have got gold.

In the last ISSF WC, Ind made 1 gold 2 bronzes in Olympic events. Considering how high variance shooting is, not displeased with the 3 bronzes which is the same number of medals.

There were 3 team events in which we got 4th in the trap event and 3rd in the pistol mixed.

The rifle event we flopped.

should put it in when we get the chance and keep it.

not a new sport but a sub category of an existing sport.

koreans put mens and womens teams in recurve in 88 and has been there since.

Surprised the US didn't put it in the LA olympics. Currently, they are the #2 team and traditional powers in Compound

By the time India gets sufficient medals, Robot olympics also will be a thing. We will again start from a huge disadvantage.

From a positive point of view, even with so many missed chances, misfortunes and bottle jobs we are at our near best medal tally.

That is the progress if we see it this way.

If I see it from pessimistic view, we had 6 medals in 2012 and we have stagnated in a lot of sports since then, even worsened in the sport like Boxing.

We went from 1 in 2004 to 3 in 2008 to 6 in 2012. Multifold growth, same hasn't been the case after that.

I think for 2028 the realistic target should be 15 medals. This time it was 10.

Finish with ~7, with 10 near misses, 0 golds n importantly below Pakistan's gold medals will serve as bigger motivation for 2028 than 10 medals this time could have been.

So again, 15 target for LA 2028.

Remember the wait is 4 yrs now. So long time. Tokyo was in 2021

Asian Games, World Championships and CWG are good barometers

Asian Games for Archery, Badminton, Wrestling, TT

CWG for Athletics and Hockey

We need to flood the top 20 in the sport with as many ppl as possible like China, S Korea and Japan.

Of course world championships for everything else.

Uzbeks have 5 Golds this time, could end up with a couple of more. Thats up there with the bigger sporting nations

They are awesome in boxing and some of the other martial arts like Taekwondo and Karate. Same with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. Iran for wrestling. Turkey used to be a powerhouse in weightlifting and greco-roman. They seem to have fallen a bit.

Yeah they always get their share of medals in combat sports, use to hover around 2/3 Golds along with Iran

6/7 Golds is a massive haul though
