wanted_desi Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 He is ok at the best, not good enough for India.

He is still 28, he’s good prospect for #3 around explosive batters, can hold an innings and switch gears in the death. Better prospect than Gill, who also cannot bowl. Gill is not an all-format batter, unlike Jaiswal. Bad decision by Gamby to invest in Gill. Gill is the next all format star. BCCI's next reserve bank. Ultimate_Game and coffee_rules 2

Both are not fit to be openers in T20. Gill gets preferential treatment because he is made VC because he patoed Sachin’s daughter
MumInd Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 zero thoughts.... its all nepotism and bias.... unfortunatley Rutu G has to put heads down and just keep working.... Laaloo 1

Rutu plays anchor role better in T20 perhaps but it isnt enough. Ultimate_Game 1

Gill is just the flavor of the season like KL was 4 years ago Edited July 19, 2024 by coffee_rules

Dube/Siraj are Jonty Rhodes to be selected for fielding? When has fielding been a criteria for selection for batting/bowling?

And Gill is a much better player in ODIS at the moment, and even there I would prefer Jaiswal over either. The real crime is Abhishek being dropped. It's similar to Karun Nair being dropped after his triple hundred, and I hope Abhishek's career doesn't follow the same trajectory coffee_rules 1

Nair was dropped to get back the injured Rohit, the current captain. Luck plays out a major part in team selections and the zaalim form and temperament. Nair failed in domestic cricket to get back. He was a compulsive sweeper, could have been an asset I against spin bowling. None of our top batters dare to sweep. Ultimate_Game 1

I get the luck piece but you can't be so rigid that you ignore performances like 40 ball 100 or a triple 100. Also, there's no consistency. Some players like Rahane or Avesh now get chances after chances despite failing for a long period, whereas some are simply discarded despite performing or showing signs of belonging at the highest level - e.g., Abhishek and Venkatesh Iyer when he initially made it to the team. And some are discarded without giving a fair chance - Varun C or Bishnoi, and we get likes of Chahal making comebacks after comebacks. I want to see performances at the highest level mean something and youngsters and newbies being backed if they perform. Don't see that at all. It seems like selectors have the team selected no matter what without even seeing the performances. Gollum 1
Prabhdeep Singh Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 India picks batsmen who have very good FC records: Jaiswal average 75 with 12 100's, age 22 Gill average 50 with 12 100's, age 24 Gaikwad average 43 with 6 100's, age 27 Gaikwad has so so record in FC record even though he is older than Gill and Jaiswal. I would say someone like Shaw will be a much better player than Gaikwad if gets rid of his disciplinary issues. Shaw average 49 with 13 100's, age 24

Shaw average 49 with 13 100's, age 24 Shaw is like Ishan... had a great chance but attitude's not right. But TBF to Shaw, the team did him no favors by not selecting him when he was ready for intl cricket. They're doing the same with Jaiswal in ODIs and Abhishek. Earlier we used to give players chances if they had the ability. Think SRT making his debut as a 16 year old, Yuvraj debuting in 2000 CT as a 18 year old, Kohli making his debut as a 19 year old and Rohit getting a debut in 2007 WT20 as a fresh-faced kid. And now suddenly the same folks deny chances to youngsters who're ready. Jaiswal and Abhishek should be regulars. Riyan Parag and Rinku should be white-ball regulars as well but the seniors are simply not allowing them the chances. Indian seniors are acting like Baby Boomers - extracted most of the benefit but when it comes to younger generation, they're denying them the chances.
