Your thoughts on Ruturaj being dropped ?

While I think they could have given him more games, I can understand where selectors are coming from.

He is soon going to be 28, is a very poor fielder and looked very slow in the start, specially against Muzarbani etc where he couldn't score against him.

In the times when we are looking for aggressive openers his style doesn't really fit the combination.

His FC record is not that good and I don't think it is time to look for him as an option in other formats.

A tough decision and may be unfair on him but I believe it is a right decision for the long term.

What are the reasons for dropping Abhishek.

Of all the three points Abhishek is opposite of Ruturaj

28 is not old at all for a batsman. Also, as @tweaker mentioned if they want fast scoring batsman from start then why Gill in T20Is?

Ruturaj IMO should be part of ODI setup after CT. I see him being a consistent bat at the top after Kohli and Rohit's retirement.

I find Abhishek's exclusion totally inexplicable. That is one the most bizzare decisions Indian selectors have ever made.

Gaekwad like Gill isn't suited for T20's IMO.

"The great MSD" has already called out that he don't see any spark in him..that itself means Gaekwad is not going to be a front runner ever.

I like to see Gaekwad work on his technique and become a replacement for KL Rahul in ODI's at MO. He can also be part of Test setup and bat at no 3 in place of Gill (who will move to no 4 once Kohli retires).

At 28 you want your batsmen to be finished products. Rutu still appears like someone who needs more time in internationals to be that.

The gulf in class of him and Sai Sudarshan in SA tour was huge. I know the sample size is 2 games but it gave very solid hints.

So I can't see point in investing in him, we can give these valuable international games when Rohit Kohli don't play, to Sai for development.

i consider him as a TEST Batsman and not good enough to represent India in T20 or ODI.

in Tests - I am not sure but he has a style of taking time at the start and so I feel he can become a good opening test batsman.

he does play well once he is settled but in today's competitive world , you have jaiswal's/abhishek sharma/Head kind of batsman who are supposed to hit from the first ball.

i have no regrets about him not being selected and I am sure in future too , he wont get opportunities in short format of the game.

Age should not be a factor. Sky debut was when he was 30 . He is still 28, he’s good prospect for #3 around explosive batters, can hold an innings and switch gears in the death. Better prospect than Gill, who also cannot bowl. Gill is not an all-format batter, unlike Jaiswal. Bad decision by Gamby to invest in Gill.

For SL series its v.simple, In t20 if they are not picking Abhishek then there is no way they can pick rutu. Not picking abhishek has already been discussed in other threads. And why gill is vc is both teams

ODIs-TM and Selectors  does not want call rohit and kolhi from their vacation to play a series against sl and have their replacements in the team.

and gill is already vc so they cannot drop vc from the team. So top 3 slots are already taken. no point in adding rutu when he is clearly nt going to play

I'm more gutted about Abhishek dropped after a 40 ball 100, which followed a stellar SMA and IPL season. What message does this send to the youngster?

Also, non-selection of Jaiswal in ODIs. So Jaiswal is our best Test batsman and was the best T20 player in Zim and has been stellar across these 2 formats. But somehow he can't be in the ODIs

Could be a decent ODI player, IMO. He should never have been in contention for T20I.

The dropping of Abhishek Sharma, OTOH, is pi$$ing me off!
