'I took 13 wickets in 3 matches. What more do you want?': Kohli, Shastri not spared as Shami reignites 2019 WC debate

I still believe Kohli was our Goat test captain and no other captain came close. Shamis comeback was under him and I don't think he would have done as well under anyone else.

This is the difference between LOI and test captaincy. LOI needs instinctive captains, captains who can react on the field and pull rabbits out of their hats. Captains who are comfortable changing plans, surprising people. Dhoni was great at this. Rohit also does this, holds back bowlers, tries different things. You can see this in their personalities too, they are cool, calm bit instinctive people who react well under pressure.

But test needs long term planning and vision. Kohli is a person who focuses on a target and obsessively goes after it over a long term. You can see this in his fitness regime. Kohli had the vision to back fast bowlers even at home, bowlers like Shami and Ishant had great comebacks under him when they were average under Dhoni. Even Yadav looked better. Our pace bowlers were running through sides even at home. I remember our fast bowlers  took all format hat trick in one year or so. India was responsible for over 80% of concussion subs in tests at that time with our bowlers causing one sub per series (Yadav even caused 2 in the same match).

Kohli had a vision for tests and single handily brought a fast bowling revolution. We seem to have gone back to old times under Dravid/Rohit.

Wasnt Rohit/Dravid's focus on bringing in a ICC trophy? They did not have so many test series overseas to try out new players.  Funny you keep shifting goal posts

But that's not excuse to go back to spinning pitches at home and sidelining pacers. They undid a lot of progress we did in terms of fast bowling and it will take many years to get back.

Also I think we are going to win lots of trophies in the future regardless of captain or coach, our team and talent is good enough. The only reason we lost many recently is because of complete blunders like the pitch Dravid Rohit prepared or Kohli choosing to chase in a big final.

One can only play the cards one is dealt with.. as someone said, stop complaining and objectively assess whether Dravid/Rohit's tenure delivered the intended results.

In tests? No they took the team backward. But yes Rohit is a better LOI captain than Kohli. Dravid made next to zero contribution, we won inspite of him, not because of him, carrying a complete passenger as opener throughout the tournament was brain dead. Any other team but SA would have easily chased the score.

India played only 5 tests overseas from 2022 onwards.. (SA+WI).  The bet on Prasidh backfired and no other pacer debuted.  As I said one can only play cards one is dealt.

Yeah but Bhuvi was big fraud too. Even in those seaming conditions he couldnt take early wickets. Less said about batting the better. Didnt even try.

Shami was much better even then.

Selecting Bhuvi was still fine given the conditions and the need for batting depth.

The real selection blunder was picking 0.5 D Chahal over Shami when the conditions were so spin unfriendly throughout that tournament and especially in that SF.

Yeah made a great 50

Whether the plan works or not is a different thing but go with the correct plan in the start.

It wasn't a correct plan in first place. Shami was better even in batting.

Chahal should never have played that game. Both Shami and Bhuvi should've played ahead of him. That mental midget is only good for showing his teeth and chewing collar after getting tonked for 6s.

He is an amusement clown for other players. Can't even be used as substitute fielder.

I wouldn't even trust him to carry drinks... his loser vibe may rub off on the players in the middle. Ditto for KL Rahul.
