Indian young batters must learn to finish run chases

There is no doubt that the young Indian batters bring with them a lot of excitement, class and grace. But an important aspect of a great ODI team is that they should be able to chase down totals on tricky wickets.

 

Dhoni, Yuvraj,Kohli are legends in ODIs and the reason behind it was not stats but the mastery of chasing down totals with utmost ease. Young batters need to learn this. Even Suresh Raina is rated high for this reason only.

 

The likes of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel etc all have enough experience to not bottle up these cases. If you get set, get the job done. Great players are those who get the job done once set. Stats won't make you a great ODI player. 

 

We need more lower order batters like Irfan Pathan rather than Ravindra Jadeja in white ball cricket.

These guys have finished chases. Obviously they can't remain not out every time. 

 

About Axar, he was mostly seen as a bowler earlier. It was just in last two years that Dravid occasionally sent him in the middle. With time, we will see. His best was a quick 50 against WI in a big chase.

Today should have finished. Not sure what Arshdeep was thinking there. Need a dressing down. Without even facing one ball hoicking brainlessly on this track needs dressing down. These are the errors i often see with woman's cricket. Did not expect in men's cricket. Percentage cricket concept has gone out of the window.

Among the given names, Iyer has 5 not outs in 21 run chases. And he is a top order batsman. 

Rahul has 6 not outs in 13 run chases since he stopped opening. 

Axar will be tested soon.

Likes of kela iyer don't belong in Indian Team in any format. Any. 

 

I dont want useless jela even in tests. Unless he is playing middle order.

Except Sundar & Gill, there are no young batters in the line up.  Everyone is 30+.  (Even Iyer is almost 30).   So, it's the oldies who need to learn how to finish run chases (Viz: KL, Iyer, Kohli,  Axar)

India need to first inject "young players" in the team to do something.

 

Jaiswal is laying eggs at home, Rinku has been good in the lower order role but some think he is not good for ODI's (despite strong stats in List A & even FC).
