Depends if his lordship feels like traveling to India when the series is about to start. Knowing our spineless selectors and BCCI babus, and the 0 phucks nepo baby Jay Shah gives, it'll be Kohli and Rohit who'll decide on when they play and how long they play. If they don't feel like playing, they'll opt out and even if they don't perform - which Kohli hasn't been doing for ages (5 years) in Tests now - there won't be any repercussions. That's the reason we've failed to win WTC as these so called seniors/stars never show up when it matters.

Bumrah as a VC and Pant the captain. It's a long series - 5 Tests, and Bumrah is unlikely to play all 5. He's also likely to overbowl himself as a captain and we can't risk it. He's the most valuable player we have and we need to take care of him.
