Suhaan Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 High time we select format specific players to avoid these super humiliating events We need to have red ball guys exclusively for red ball cricket,no infiltration from T20 guys into this side maybe you can ease them into Odis first Odis should also have specific guys ,no T20 (quick 20-30 runs top order)cameo specialists needed here More and more multidimensional guys in lois Come discuss here,BCCI with its money should not be saving this leverage by tossing this "multi format " players nonsense time and again Our test side has gone to the dogs, needs a serious rebuild Mosher, raki05, singhvivek141 and 4 others 1 6
zen Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 There will be some overlap as there would be players like Bumrah who can be slotted in all formats. Maybe Kuldeep Yadav and Axar too depending on conditions. express bowling 1
vvvslaxman Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 (edited) I checked the average stay of batsmen at the crease. I mainly focused on median as average will give us skewed numbers due to one good innings. Median stay of our batsmen at the crease Jaiswal 56 balls Pant 53 balls Gill 52 balls Sharma 16 balls Sarfraz 9.5 balls Kohli 9 balls So basically most of the time last 3 don't last more than 20 balls. They barely last 2 to 3 overs at the crease. This is low even by T20 standard for a top order batsman. Edited November 3, 2024 by vvvslaxman express bowling, singhvivek141, Vk1 and 1 other 1 1 2

These're the only three who have the stats and performances to back it up. After that it's mostly one or two format players. Likes of Sai Sudarshan and Gill are suited to ODIs & Tests, and likes of Abhishek, SKY, Arshdeep are suited to T20s alone. And then you've Test specialists like Pant (maybe also ODIs), Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, Siraj etc. But our selectors and majority of fans can't differentiate across formats. vvvslaxman Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 They are trying Arshdeep singh for Tests. I like his temperament. He handles the pressure very well. But does he have the skill? His action is less injury prone. One reason i wish him do well in longer format. Suhaan 1
tapandrun Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 t20 is now entirely different side but it only happened with Rohit-kolhi-Jadeja left themselves. KL had to play match losing innings in 2 high profile wc matches to be not considered in t20is anymore. singhvivek141 and Suhaan 2

Arsh is good in T20s, maybe try in ODI's under certain conditions but that's it. No for tests...else we will end up with a Shaheen Afridi.
Sandz Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Not possible due to the IPL, everyone prioritises T20 these days, you won’t find anyone decent who wants to specialise in Test cricket. Gill is a prime example of this problem, he has been trying to become a better T20 bat for years at the expense of other formats, as a result he hasn’t fulfilled his potential in any format so far.

Still doable, test class batsmen and T20 specialists can be distinguished Even you do it,selectors sure can also Edited November 4, 2024 by Suhaan
vvvslaxman Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 When Virat Kohli at his prime in T20 the expectations were different for a T20 batsman. Par score was mostly 160 to 170 with occasional 180. So his innings building style was working for him. This way he didn't have to do anything to switch between formats. Nowadays T20 has gone to next level. It increases the chances of batsmen picking bad habits. Jaiswal is a case in point. When he started hsi Test career he was showing impeccable judgement, temperament and patience. Now he is not showing the same discipline.
vvvslaxman Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Rohit sharma has retired from T20. Why was he playing like one would play in T20. If you get beaten you cannot hit your way out as you take more risks. If he is not confident of handling new ball he should come down the order.

Chamsi Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Yo, T20 needs to be separate from Test players as you rightly said. This should be there in domestic cricket as well. Both types can play ODI, which will become more fun as we see a meting pot of the older format (5-day, 4-day) and the newer format (T20, T10, Hundred) players. It will be the neutral party, a competitive zone. For people to show and hone their skills. It will really revive ODI cricket, if this rule is applied.
