Curiously if Akashdeep is benched who will bowl round the wicket to Head and Khawaja??  Their obvious weakness.

Bumrah Siraj collectively lose their brains at the sight of left handers.

Harshit is hit the deck but I am unsure how will he Target someone like Head.

I hope we come up with something.

Don't want siraj. Akashdeep will do in his place.

Morkel has pretty much backed Siraj at least for Perth test.   Siraj is locked in unfortunately.

Pretty sure fight for one pacer slot is between Prasidh Akash and Harshit.

Akash seems to have fallen behind in pecking order as TM seems to be keen on one Hit the deck seamer for Perth.

Ashwin Set to Spin in Perth: India's Strategy for Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Last updated 11 minutes ago

The Indian cricket team is preparing for the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at Perth's Optus Stadium. Ravichandran Ashwin is confirmed to lead the spin attack, a strategic move considering Australia's left-handed batting lineup. The Indian squad, including stars like Rahul, Jaiswal, Padikkal, Kohli, Pant, and Bumrah, will tackle a pitch expected to initially assist fast bowlers before turning to favor spinners. Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood has openly expressed his relief at not facing Cheteshwar Pujara, known for his resilience. Both teams are eager to make their mark; Australia looks to end a four-series losing streak, while India aims to continue their dominance. There's also buzz around potential debuts for young talents like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana, adding an element of excitement to the series.

Even assuming Ashwin bowls well who will bat down the order? At perth spinner may not even be needed. Besides Sundar is as tall as Ashwin to extract same amount of bounce.

They didn't back him at the oval which demanded his inclusion.   Indian team consistently make these errors.  Also Jadeja took 10 wickets last match. Is he going to be left out or is he taking the spot of a btasman?

if they go with Ash and Siraj that would add to the long list of selection blunders in recent time. You need players with more confidence and better frame of mind.  Ashwin on YT said he was more heart broken that he could not contribute with bat IN NZ series also slightly hinting at getting old.

Siraj is an even worse selection, absolutely shot as a bowler. I think they are just playing because he took that 6-fer in SA earlier in the year. Akashdeep would have been much better here.

And Akash can whack the ball as well.

If rumors are true and this is the team

Jaiswal

KLR

Padikkal

Kohli

Pant

Jurel

Reddy

Ashwin

Rana

Bumrah

Siraj

This team has a pretty long tail. They are hoping reddy  Ashwin and Rana will combine to play as two batsman. I doubt it given form and lack of experience. I think the bowling is ok .. Ashwin ins Australia is not as good as he is in India. Reddy is a t20 batsman..ok as a bowler. But he will be bounced out like in 3 out of 4 India a innings. Harshit..I have no idea how good he is as a batsman..but as a bowling ar ..he should be ok. I am fine with starting with Ashwin as a bowler given most spinners take time to understand the Australian pitches and do well in sena countries.

I would have replaced Reddy with a better bowler - Prasidh or Akashdeep

And Ashwin with better batsman - Washington

And Padikkal with Jadeja

Jaiswal

KLR

Jurel

Kohli

Pant

Jadeja

Sundar

Rana

Akashdeep

Bumrah

Siraj

I think the only reason the management is choosing the above team is they think of Ashwin as a attacking option. My team is based on using spinners as defensive option

I don’t think its based on experience.

I would say it isn’t a good pick but Ashwin has been dropped umpteen times for Shardul, Jadeja etc so blaming it all on experience doesn’t make sense.

Strange to see siraj when Akashdeep is bowling well

bumrah harshit and akash with washy and reddy would make a deep batting and bowling unit . Dont know why ashwin over washy is better …
