Step by step, institutions like the media, the election commission, and the Supreme Court have become increasingly subservient to the will of a messianic figure like Modi—a leader who has openly labeled millions of Muslim citizens as "ghuspetiyas" (infiltrators) and championed laws and policies that marginalize minorities while enforcing a majority-driven narrative.

This doesn’t resemble the secular India I grew up admiring.

I think you are confusing the person of a government leader with a vast country which runs as a Federal republic. As the recent election results showed, the Indian voter is quite mature and doesn't hesitate to hold all politicians to account however emotive the pitch. The BJP even ended up losing their seat in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Rama...which you would have thought a slam dunk for the BJP.

Leaders will come and go. I think what India has going for it is a system in which elections and peaceful transfer of power works pretty well.

BTW...there is an Asterix* here.

The Faizabad Central seat has 5 state constituencies.

1. Ayodhya

2. Dariyanad

3. Milkipur

4. Bikapur

5. Rudauli

BJP actually won most votes in Ayodhya region...it lost in other four state constituencies to SP. Hence combining them SP was a winner for Faizabad Constituency...but in Ayodhya itself BJP was the winner.

I have no hesitation in admitting that Pakistan is not a secular democracy today—no illusions there. Perhaps this gives me a clearer perspective because I’ve seen similar patterns unfold in Pakistan under Zia’s regime in the 1980s and beyond.

When was Pakistan a secular democracy? 1946?

This “nationalist” government has ended your democracy and secular fabric. The effects of this dictatorship will start to show up decades from now.

Good. Secularism was always a sham as it always pampered the 2nd biggest majority in India and forced the majority to dance to the times of everyone else in the sham of secularism. Secularism only works if everyone involved is a secular and not just a burden for the majority to carry.

Change will come through people-to-people connections, not political posturing. For over three decades, India’s policy of refusing to play cricket with Pakistan has achieved nothing. The Pakistani establishment and its proxies operate as usual, and cricket bans do nothing to address terrorism—issues far beyond the sport's influence. This policy is misguided, isolating ordinary people and fueling resentment.

Real change requires common people to demand peace and dismantle anti-peace forces, but such policies only strengthen India’s image as a bully, deepening divides and stifling unity. Ultimately, it helps no one except politicians looking to distract and divide for electoral gains.

oh I absolutely disagree that it has achieved "nothing".  Its an excellent point of leverage, an extremely public one that nakedly exposes the horrible corrupt consequences that Pakistan suffers due to the evil choices its 'leaders' make.

India's 'image' is less important than the lives and security of its citizens.  Its not "political gains".  Even atheists and anti-Modi anti-BJP folks strongly support the cricket boycott and ever further boycotts of Pakistan until and unless your country cleans up the **** that its been hurling at us, and even at its own citizens.

Stop whining and blaming others. clean up your ****, before you expect Indian rupees via cricket or other mechanisms.

The constant porcine squealing and humiliation on the cricket boycott is an effective leverage, and is doing just the job it was intended to.

lol, Pakistan in its wildest fantasies, is not "like India".  You lot have always been klepocratic feudal slaves fed the opium of pretending to be a theocratic state.

This is a very common refrain amongst greenbro pseudo-elite - it feeds into their wannabe superiority complex - 'oh INdia is going on the route that we did with Zia in 80s'.  Total BS that is.  Nothing in reality to support that assertion, except for Pakistani 'vibes' and feelings.

There is a difference, There is no opposition in NK or Russia or even China. Even USA is limited to 2 party system.

In India there isnt such limitation, we are a multi party system and the reason BJP/Modi are winning elections 3 three times in a row is because majority of the population believes in him and his vision for India.

Also, you're talking about compromised system but there are no proofs against it. The bubble of EVM was already burst down when none of the opposition political parties came for the trial despite election commission calling for it.

So all I can say is the information you have is incorrect and needs a re-evaluation at your end.

I am not blaming you for it though, information these days can be easily twisted and converted into a dis-information (I purposefully wrote dis instead of mis) to devalue the progress of a state.

You folks are explaining this to someone whose country is run by the army, and has never had a democratically elected govt complete even a single term. And where the minority population has dwindled from 15-20% at the time of partition to less than 1% currently.

There's an apt saying for it... "bandar kya jaane adrak ka swad"

It's ok, since he is being civil in his choice of words...it's fine to give him some correct knowledge.

All the time, an average Pakistani is so deeply engulfed into hating India that they have ended up being a NPA for their every master country...be in USA or China.

Both USA and China are now kinda trying to normalize the relation with India (even though its a facade). Pakistan can't do that because they don't manufacture even a hairpin, and have acute shortage of electricity.

Here's what NY post had to say from this article...
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/04/world/asia/pakistan-hindu-conversion.html
"At independence in 1947, Hindus composed 20.5 percent of the population of the areas that now form Pakistan. In the following decades, the percentage shrank rapidly, and by 1998 — the last government census to classify people by religion — Hindus were just 1.6 percent of Pakistan’s population. Most estimates say it has further dwindled in the past two decades."

Wikipedia and other sources have similar stats. At the moment the minority based on the latest census is less than 1%. Please show us more accurate figures as here're some other sources I referenced...

https://minorityrights.org/country/pakistan/

https://factsanddetails.com/south-asia/Pakistan/Religion/entry-8066.html

I'm sure you can find similar stats for India and I'm more than sure you're gonna enlighten us how India has "targeted" minorities under Modi despite continual growth in minority %ge.

Unlike Pakistan, internet here is uncensored.

So information is available.

I'm not saying that people aren't converting or their isn't pressure to convert just asking to stop posting this blatantly incorrect statistic.

That too on a cricket forum.

I don't come here to talk politics but when I see misinformation being posted over and over again I have to say something.

Conversion isn't politics. It's blatant misuse of religion
