Josh Hazlewood out of second test (probably whole series)

That's exactly the reason I want India to play 4 specialist pacers. Even one innings of over-bowling can knock a pacer out for the series. Bumrah shouldn't bowl than 14-15 a day and so need a 4th pacer so the load can be shared across the remaining 3.

Shami could be lethal. He has looked in good rhythm this month. Specifically, bowling 43 overs for 7 wickets in the lone Ranji game he played on the 12th. Shami could share some of the load with Bumrah as a lead bowler.

Shami looks like in second trimester currently. Bowling intensity in Ranji and test are completely different and he also doesn't have any great record in Australia.

Absolutely those who have watched him bowl recently are saying he looks a shadow of the bowler he was.

Time to move on I think

How many times have we moved on from Shami only to have him come back and snap the opposition? He's an artist with the ball even when the conditions/pitch don't do much. He's clearly not giving it his all in SMAT. Its explainable. He's getting into a rhythm, finding his pace again, getting into the groove. No need to break the back for the first round of a domestic T20 league.

Shami is one of those rare wkt takers who can bowl for long. If Shami is close to his bowling form, get him in. We need one stock bowler in the lineup. Earlier it used to be Ishant and Shami could also go on forever. Right now Bumrah is not built to bowl a lot of overs. And even Siraj isn't one to do so. Harshit is a newbie and Akash Deep might play that role. I would be more comfortable with 4 pacers as we can't expect Aussies to be bowled out cheaply everytime.

First of all, he isn't fit enough play test cricket currently.

That's not true. He's back from his injury and playing domestic with full schedule load. You missed the part where he bowled 43 overs for 7 wickets in a Ranji game 2 weeks ago. He bowled 24 of those 43 overs in the 4th innings. That tells you that, he had enough in the tank even on day 4. You can't be unfit and still run in for 24 overs on day 4.

He looks unfit..weight wise...will take some time to reach test level fitness

If Hazlewood is done in the 2nd match, Scott Boland will take his place.

Scott Boland is also dangerous. He does not swing. He uses seam movement to get the wicket. But he is not as quick as Hazlewood.

He is same pace as Hazlewood but not as tall so doesn't get as much bounce.

Ranji fitness isn't same as test match fitness. Shami like bowler can do well on a green top even if he is bowling at 50% capacity.

Scott Boland is 35 years old and he is replacing the bowler who is our prime enemy.

In the first test at Perth he picked up 4 wickets in the first innings and in the second innings where we made 487 he conceded 28 runs in 21 overs.

Hazelwood is also the same bowler who picked 5-8 in adelaide pink ball test when we succumbed to 36 all out.

We have basically won 20% of the test  match already, if it was 50-50 earlier, is 70-30 now.

Lets stop pretending that this isn't a big blow, this is probably the biggest blow Aus could have gotten, Josh troubles us even more than Cummins.

Now, coming back to Scott Boland, he is a 35 year old never has been who has been in terrible form in the Shield, he is also the shortest bowler in their attack and significantly shorter than Hazelwood.

Another thing to notice is that Hazelwood is their stock bowler, he does the dirty work, if he isnt there then we have two bowlers with higher economies (Cummins eco has deteriorated a lot) trying to play enforcers, Scott Boland will have to take on the duties of Josh and its highly unlikely that he will excel with the kind of form he is in and infact with the kind of ability he has.

I am now as confident as ever that this is basically our test to Lose, we have a bowling DemiGod with us also Siraj is as lethal as it gets when its swinging, and pink ball will help him.
