vvvslaxman Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Prasidh vs Travis head match up. CUrious to see how it works out as he gets extra bounce

The Indian pace attack then and now Siraj Siraj (same) Thakur Bumrah (far better) Natarajan Akashdeep/Harshit (both better) Saini(injured) ???? Sundar Sundar(same) Batting Rohit KL (similar) Gill Jaiswal (better) Pujara Gill (better) Rahane Kohli (far better) Mayank Agarwal Rohit (better anyday) Pant Pant (same) You can clearly see that this team is better than the 2021 team esp replacing the three Pujara/Rahane/Thakur. Let us see what happens with this on paper much better team compared to the 2021 team of newbies and yoyos. Agree on bowling, not so much on batting. Kohli and Rohit on current form aren't better than Rahane and Mayank. Rahane kept the intent in the chase at Gabba, got a quickfire 20 something instead of playing out the innings. Pujara of 2021 was instrumental in playing the new ball out. I don't think any batsman in the current line up can play a watchful 100 ball innings. Sgattick10 and coffee_rules 2

Going in with 4 seamers is a massive advantage in countries like Australia. 3 seamers is always a problem. Reddy is no Thakur. WIth current line up they just have to see off Bumrah. At the Gabba lot of players were unknown. Siraj, Thakur, Sundar. Now they are familair with all the players.

He was being used in a set routine of 2-3 overs only and was getting movement in the air and off the surface. If he is never given longer spells his value as a bowler won't be explored. Thaku.r was also often wild and bowled his share of dross.

Thakur is now an overweight mid 30s medium pacer who couldn't even get an IPL team to pick him. Reddy is 21 and showing skill and fight on the biggest stage. I'd pick a Reddy over a Thankur 100% of the time. tweaker 1

Basically he wants 4 pace bowlers in the side ( not counting Reddy ). Edited December 11, 2024 by AKane

Yeah but the Thakur of 2021 is not available for selection ( even allowing for time travel) nor is the Gavaskar of 1978 or Pujara of the last decade ! Reddy is far earlier in his test career than Thakur was then. The team has to be picked from the candidates available not some wish list ! tweaker 1

I'd pick a Reddy over a Thankur 100% of the time. It is not nostalgia. It is skill set. I have seen Stuart Binny outbowling Umesh just because he could swing more. You could pitch for Arshdeep as well if you want new players. I am not talking about bringing Thakur back. But what Thakur did cannot be done by Reddy. Irfan, RP, Zaheer, Ishant were all swing bowlers. Just compare the movement of Starc in the air with our bowlers. We hardly moved the ball in the air.
vvvslaxman Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 If you have a 4th seamer he better be a swing bowler like CDG, Mitchell Mrash. They are not express bowlers. But they can be handful in swinging conditions.

Literally pick someone from the streets Sgattick10 1
AKane Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Guys I don't want to argue this because I don't have a dog in the fight. However Kohli did score an unbeaten 100 the last match. Rohit has just arrived here and can we make some room for rustiness?

However Kohli did score an unbeaten 100 the last match. Rohit has just arrived here and can we make some room for rustiness? Concern is more on their ability to deliver under pressure instead of making soft runs. Kohli scored a 100, once Jaiswal & KL gave us a solid start and Auzzie bowlers were on the backfoot. From senior guys, you expect them to deliver under pressure, when the chips are down. Kohli's habit of "feeling" the bat even when the bowl is wide has become a meme now. Rohit, the less I talk the better, he barely stays on the crease and always find out new ways to get himself in trouble.
test fan Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I know reddy score some runs but I'll drop him and Play 5 proper bowlers Bumrah Siraj Akashdeep Prasidh Krishna Sundar/ Jadeja This should be bowling attack for this test. Than for last two test Play both Ashwin and Jadeja along with 3 pacers. No use of bits and pieces type players. Reddy bowling is useless anyway .

Any extra bowling will end up not being used especially a spinner. Reddy's bowling is perfectly fine in these conditions and on the evidence of the very short spells he has was given, he bowled better than Mitch Marsh who the Aussies use in a similar role. bouncers 1
