He would have been dangerous in Melbourne with the bounce.

His statistics and achievements are there for all to see. But Ashwin's uniqueness is his intense love of the game, which manifested in 2 ways:

 

(1) Zero tolerance for rule-breakers. He is a gentleman's gentleman and will be "nice" but only to an extent. If you crossed a line and started disrespecting the game or taking undue advantage of "sportsman's spirit," you became persona no grata.  He called out chucking more aggressively than any active player I have ever seen, and of course, the non-striker backing up too far. He made a huge contribution to the integrity of the sport.

 

(2) His humility that allowed him to play the game hard against anyone, anytime, anywhere. Even after becoming an international icon, he had no hesitation playing in TNPL and other less glamorous settings. He just wanted to play and keep improving.

 

A savant and straight-shooter.

He is one of those guys bit like Sachin who listen to opinions of others about their trade. He doesn't throw hissy fit when someone comments about your game.

One thing i have observed. If you ask Australians to name the biggest threat against them in the last 15 years they would unanimously  name Ashwin.  Tomorrow they are going to have a separate podcast about him.  I am surprised they are treating him like god.

Those 4 BGTs Ashwin played huge role.

 

2017 - Saved Ind's ass in Bangalore 4th innings and then bowled well in Dharamsala 3rd innings

2018 - Played in only Adelaide. Helped with a partnership with Pujara and then bowled well in both innings.

2020 - Was great with the ball in MCG and then saved SCG with a sore back.

2023 - Saved the 2nd test with Axar with the bat and then bowled out Aus with Jadeja with the ball.

Sometimes opponents tell more about a player than us. Because they know who hurts them the most psychologically.

They have won so less these random group stage AC games are important to them.

 

No one in Ind gives and f about 2010, 2012, 2016, 2018 (x2), 2023 etc. India won 4 of those ACs.
