He batted like a God - a nervous, technique obsessed God, but still a God nonetheless. It was a great bowling lineup and the home umpiring in many countries (not just Pak( highly favored the home team.

Partly yes, but Sanju was much better than most batters on either side. Didn't seem like he could be dismissed

Manjrekar’s most magical knock if I remember was in 92 wc against Australia where the match was dead and buried and he almost revived it and pulled off a win and India fell 1 run short. He did have a good run vs WI and especially Pak but those were  patta pitches.

 

i know for Pakistan IK is a 180K bowler and a 300 Sr batsman but Ik by 89 was a trundler in the Nitish Kumar Reddy mould by that time and was a batsman like Misbah who could use the long handle with a lot of tuk tuk to stabilize collapses. Qadir too was on his last legs. 2 W’s were still lethal but guess neutral umpiring took away the “reverse swinging” ability.

We had a very bad ODI squad in '92. SRT was batting out of position and too young. Shastri was like Sunny - just plodded massively. Only good ODI player among the batters at that time was Azhar Mian

I don't enjoy biased comments from uneducated ( in cricketing sense ) posters  , show some heart and keep your jealousy aside from 2 Ws and IK when talking about cricket. Its stupid to compare the great IK with Nitish as a bowler . FYI, Imran was older by 1989 but was still fit and was a great bowler , yes he  had slowed down considerably by 1992 WC. In India-Pak series 1989, he was the 2nd highest wicket taker from Pakistan after Wasim and a year earlier he took 11 wicket in a test to beat West Indies in WI ( their first defeat at home in more than a decade ) and he took 23 wickets in 3 tests , more than any other bowler from either side including Marshall.

yep, agree with it. This is why I wrote that Sanju Manju Ganju batted a God. It's a diff matter that his batting became completely useless later on.

Biggest factor was neutral umpires. If we didn't have neutral umpires we would've lost 3-0.
