Gavaskar criticises

Disgusting take. You have a great player (who is also self aware about his decline and the value he brings to the setup now), deciding to call it quits and a ready, younger replacement waiting to take over. At least show some grace, appreciate his career, wish him luck and a happy retired life.

Ashwin always speaks glowingly of Gavaskar and other legends in his YT videos. An emotional, poignant moment for him, his family, well wishers, fans. It is understandable if PR groups, vested media people attack him because they are vultures. But Sunny, a legend of the game, who has been closely associated with Indian cricket even post his retirement, casting doubt/aspersion, questioning Ashwin's integrity etc.....how low has the senile man fallen? I mean read the room, if people like Harbhajan and Yuvraj can show grace at this time despite their alleged frosty relations with Ashwin, what has become of you old man?

To be honest Gavaskar has a point, whatever the case , a player selected for the tour , not supposed to leave the team midway.

Ashwin isnt an irrational fellow, he must have gotten some info that he isnt going to play in either of the two remaining tests.

Plus his fitness isnt as good, he was struggling even during the second Test as well on the field.

I don't understand how posters are calling Sundar a replacement of Ashwin.

Sundar is not a specialist spin bowler, he is a batting allrounder, he is more of a Vinoo Mankad than Ravi Ashwin. Kuldeep will replace Ashwin not Sundar.

How? Both left the team midway.

Ashwin staying with team is pointless

Not criticising Ashwin here, but Kohli went back because of childbirth.

Gavaskar would have been wrong in both cases.

Ofcourse. I am only talking about Gavaskar criticizing Ashwin but keeping mum on other matters.

People commentating in their 70s is the issue.....

My own father was not the same man after age 65 that he was at 45. Nor my uncles. You can see the decline, change, whatever in people's behavior  as they age.

I actually think that the retirement age for jobs of 58-59-60 in India is quite apt. After that age major changes happen in humans.

Sundar has been showing improvement with the ball.

Infact he has taken 24 wkts in 7 games..out of which 19 has come in last 3 Tests only.

BCCI has an age of retiring umpires (I remember Venkatraghavan was retired at 58), but no such age is there for the commentators.

Everything has its expiry date.
