Shami was indeed quicker than Akashdeep when started. But he also tend to lose his pace as well as he had poor stamina. There were spells in Australia & NZ in 2013-14 when he was trundling at 127-133 kph. Akashdeep mostly oscillates in 130-136kph range and doesn't have stamina issues. If he can improve that to 135-140 then his old ball skills will also improve.

Vijy Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 To an extent, he is undroppable because our cultivation of new pace bowling resources has been incredibly poor. Shami is not fit for tests (his long-format career almost done) and none of the "newer" pacers have gotten enough chances. Contrast this with our peak where we had bumrah, shami, ishant, umesh, and even bhuvi for some conditions.

putrevus Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 I don't think Harshit is the answer atleast for this series, he was huffing and puffing in second test when bowling under very favorable conditions. He needs to improve his fitness a lot. Siraj has been playing by default.India came into this series with one fast bowler and plenty of prayers You can't expect luck and god to be with you to last for five tests. Siraj might not be winning the matches but others who are in the squad are not going to do much either.
iroman Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 (edited) This was the peak of Indian pace. 5 men pace attack against SA. Pandya was a proper pacer back then. Bumrah's Test debut, unless I am wrong. Edited December 26, 2024 by iroman
iroman Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 SA also had a 5 men pace attack. Ind won the game.

This was last Test A pity that all the subsequent "pace" bowling ARs we have played in int'l matches have no pace. Dubey, Nitish Reddy, Venky Iyer, etc. Lord 1

This was last Test No he is not, he does not have edurance nor skill to be proper fast bowler in tests. He was in same sort of position like Siraj , no other alternative.
